A: General:
1. Immediately fill in the particulars on this page of the Test Booklet with Blue/Black Ball point
pen.
2. Use Black Ball Point Pen only for writing particulars on Answer Sheet. Use of pencil is
strictly prohibited.
3. Blank papers, clipboards, log tables, slide rules, calculators, cellular phones, pagers and
electronic gadgets in any form are not allowed.
4. The answer sheet, a machine-gradable Objective Response Sheet (ORS) is provided separately.
5. Do not Tamper/mutilate the ORS or this booklet.
6. No additional sheets will be provided for rough work.
7. On completion of this test, the candidate must hand over the Answer Sheet to the Invigilator
on duty in the Room/Hall. However, the candidates are allowed to take away this Test
Booklet with them.

B: Questions paper format & Marking Scheme:


1. The question paper consists of 30 questions of Mathematics.
2. Answers will be whole numbers from 0 to 999, where students must fill OMR corresponding to
correct answer.
3. If your answer is 9 then you will have to fill in as 09.
4. For each question you will be awarded 1 marks if you darken the bubble corresponding to the
correct answer ONLY and zero (0) marks if no bubbles are darkened. There is no negative
Marking.

Mathematics

1. The equations x2 + ax + 1 = 0 and x2 + bx + c = 0 have a common real root, and the equations
x2 + x + a = 0 and x2 + cx + b = 0 have a common real root. Find a + b + c .

2. A machine shop cutting tool is in the shape of a notched circle, as shown. The radius of the circle is 50 cm , the
length of AB is 6 cm , and that of BC is 2 cm . The angle ABC is a right angle. Find the square of the distance (in
centimeters) from B to the center of the circle.

3. How many set of integers a, b, c, d are possible such that the polynomial ax3 + bx2 + cx + d equals 1 at x = 19
and 2 at x = 62 .

4. 8 players compete in a tournament. Everyone plays everyone else just once. The winner of a game gets 1 , the

loser 0 , or each gets if the game is drawn. The final result is that everyone gets a different score and the

player placing second gets the same as the total of the four bottom players. What was the score of player
placing?

5. The natural numbers m and n are relatively prime. Then greatest possible common divisor of m + n and m2 + n2 is.

6. We place labeled points on a circle as follows. At step 1, take two points at opposite ends of a diameter and label
them both 1 . At step n  1, place a point at the midpoint of each arc created at step n − 1 and label it with the sum
of the labels at the two adjacent points. If A is the total sum of the labels after step 10 the last two digits of A is?

10. The solid shown has a square base of side length s. The upper edge is parallel to the base and has length 2s . All
other edges have lengths. Given that s = 6 2 , what is the volume of the solid?

11. The length of diameter AB is a two-digit integer. Reversing the digits gives the length of a perpendicular chord
CD. The distance from their intersection point H to the center O is a positive rational number. Determine the
length of AB.

12. For 1, 2, 3, ....,n and each of its non-empty subsets, an alternating sum is defined as follows. Arrange the
number in the subset in decreasing order and then, beginning with the largest, alternately add and subtract
succesive numbers. For example, the alternating sum for {1, 2, 4, 6, 9} is 9 − 6 + 4 − 2 + 1 = 6 and for 5 it is
simply 5 . Find the sum of all such alternating sums for n = 7

13. In the adjoining figure, two circles with radii 6 and 8 are drawn with their centers 12 units apart. At P, one of the
points of intersection, a line is drawn in such a way that the chords QP and PR have equal length. (P is the
midpoint of QR) Find the square of the length of QP.

14. The adjoining figure shows two intersecting chords in a circle, with B on minor arc AD. Suppose that the radius of
the circle is 5 , that BC = 6 , and that AD is bisected by BC. Suppose further that AD is the only chord starting at
A which is bisected by BC. It follows that the sine of the minor arc AB is a rational number. If this fraction is

15. The integer n is the smallest positive multiple of 15 such that every digit of n is either 8 or 0 . Compute .

16. A point P is chosen in the interior of  ABC such that when lines are drawn through P parallel to the sides of
 ABC , the resulting smaller triangles t1 , t 2 , and t 3 in the figure, have areas 4 , 9 , and 49 , respectively. Find
the area of  ABC .

19. A small square is constructed inside a square of area 1 by dividing each side of the unit square into n equal
parts, and then connecting the vertices to the division points closest to the opposite vertices. Find the value of n if

20. As shown in the figure, triangle ABC is divided into six smaller triangles by lines drawn from the vertices through a
common interior point. The areas of four of these triangles are as indicated. Find the area of triangle ABC.

21. Assume that a, b, c and d are positive integers such that a5 = b4, c 3 = d2, and c − a = 19 . Determine d − b .

22. The pages of a book are numbered 1 through n. When the page numbers of the book were added, one of the
page numbers was mistakenly added twice, resulting in an incorrect sum of 1986 . What was the number of the
page that was added twice?
