Fall of Rome

By: Clementina Garcia

Rome, one of the greatest and most powerful civilizations of history. So great, so
powerful, so extinct? If it was so great, why did it disappear? Where did it all go
wrong? According to the background essay Rome was one of the greatest and most
powerful civilizations of history because of their organized government, military,
territory, and riches. Their government was very impactful on today’s society. Not
only was it impactful but it was also successful. These are some of the reasons why
Rome was so successful but why did it all go down the drain? The reasons for the fall
of Rome are: The army shrank in number and became unprotected. Rome did not
have a stable government. And finally, because of many different natural disasters
that hit the Roman empire.

The first reason for the fall of Rome was that the army became weak and
small. According to document B, the army got rid of their armor because it was too
heavy and uncomfortable. They also got rid of the draft. Document B shows the fall
of Rome because soldiers were exposed and were easily killed because of their
arrogance. The Roman empire also fell because they had less people in the military
ever since they had removed the draft that implied that anyone beyond a certain
age must fight in the military. Before, the roman empire was hard working and
disciplined and then they changed ideologies and started being more arrogant and
lazy. This belongs to the Cultural category of spice. It belongs to the culture
category because the biggest impact on these decisions was beliefs and values which
are part of someone’s culture. The roman empire used to be hard working and
disciplined until their values changed and they started procrastinating more and
becoming more arrogant. The shift of these values is what led to these decisions
being made, leading to the fall of the roman empire.

Another reason for the fall of Rome was that Rome did not have a stable
government. According to document A, the leader changed all the time especially
because of murder. Document B shows the fall of Rome because the government
wasn't very consistent or stable so it was probably easier for other civilizations to
take over. Some evidence from the document is that in 238c.e. there were 4 different
leaders and 3 in 270c.e. and in 251c.e. This is related to the Political category of spice
since it basically focuses on power and leader change.
Finally, the last reason for the fall of Rome was because of many different
natural disasters that hit the roman empire. According to document F, rome
suffered a lot of natural disasters that affected the civilization sevierly and the
problems left a big scar on the roman empire. Document F shows the fall of Rome
because of an earthquake that separated land causing a huge tsunami that hit some
parts of Rome; this disaster killed 50,000 people. Soon afterward a Plague arrived in
Rome, killing 750,000 people. With the kills of the tsunami and the plague Rome
was left in a very bad place. This belongs to the Interaction between humans and
environment part of spice because all of these disasters were caused by nature and
how they dealt with it is what makes it an interaction between these two things.

Rome was a very successful civilization but that doesn't mean there weren't
many reasons for its fall. The army became weak and small, the government wasn't
stable, governors were killed at the time, and many natural disasters made it hard
to keep it stable. These were only some of the biggest reasons for its fall.
