DOE: Design your Own Experiment!

Directions: Read the scenarios very carefully. Identify the needed data for an experimental
design.
A group of students tested the effect of fertilizer on the growth of plants. They used
eight plants that are all 15 cm tall. They grouped the plants into two: Group A and Group B.
They watered the plants in Group A with 150 mL of plain water and 150 mL of fertilizer-
water mixture in Group B. The students watered the plants thrice a week with the same
amount of plain water on Group A and fertilizer-water mixture on Group B and exposed
them to the same amount of sunlight. After 4 weeks, they measured the growth of the
plants (in terms of height).

Procedure:
1. Fill a tall drinking glass about ¾ amount of water.
2. Place the egg into the glass of water and observe. Label it as Set up A.
3. Fill another tall drinking glass about ¾ amount of water. add 3 tablespoons of salt and stir until
combined completely. Label it as Set up B.
4. Put the egg into the glass in Set up B and observe what happens.

Note: Keep your observations/ data from this activity, as they will be used in the next module. Thank
