3. Description
(Figure 1)
The primary parts of the actuator are a cylinder, a rod and two hoses.
At one end, the cylinder is formed into an eye fitting with a ball, for its attachment.
The cylinder has, in its internal diameter, a liner, in which the rod moves. A bearing is set
against the liner and is a guide for the rod. A locked, threaded bush prevents the movement of
the liner and the bearing in the cylinder.
The rod has a threaded eye fitting whose rotational movement is prevented by a key and a
locked, threaded bush. This eye fitting permits the length of the actuator between centers to
be adjusted.
The cylinder has a chamber which is connected to the internal circuit of the actuator. The
chamber contains a packing retainer, with restrictor washers. The movement of this assembly
in the chamber is prevented by a spacer and a threaded bush.

The chamber contains restrictor washers which are safetied with a spacer and a threaded
bush.
The supply ports on the actuator have unions to which are connected the hydraulic hoses.

4. Operation

A. Extension of the rod

(Figure 2)
A hydraulic pressure is let in through port B.
The fluid goes into the chamber in the cylinder and causes the rod to extend.
The fluid in the annular chamber is pushed out through the restrictor washers and then
through port A.

B. Retraction of the rod

(Figure 2)
A hydraulic pressure is let in through port A.
The fluid, whose flow rate is limited because it goes through the restrictor washers, then
goes into the annular chamber. This causes the rod to retract.
The fluid in the chamber in the cylinder is pushed out through port B.

B. Tests on the unlocking actuator

(1) Preparation
Put the actuator on the console. Before you start the tests, make sure that its
installation is correct. Before these tests, retract and extend the rod three or four
times. To do this, apply a pressure to ports A and B in turn, with the hand pump.
Disconnect the flexible hoses from the hand pump. Connect the end fitting
SK20978-1004 (old version) or GA47834-240 (new version) to the hose
corresponding to port A and the end fitting SK04-20972 (old version) or
GA47340-240 (new version) to the hose corresponding to port B. Then connect
these both end fittings to the test console, according to the following instructions.

(2) Leak tests and operation tests

NOTE: The both following tests (a)2 and (b)8 (checking of no permanent cylinder
distortion) are carried out only by cylinder repair or superseded cylinder.
If not use nominal utilization pressure of 206 bars (2990 psi) instead the
indicated pressure of 315 bars (4569 psi).

ILLUSTRATED PARTS LIST

1. Introduction

A. General

(1) This parts list illustrates and identifies each part of the component in this CMM. Use
it to identify parts and to help with provisioning.

(2) The Illustrated Parts List contains:

(a) a Numerical Index (where applicable)

(b) a Detailed Parts List

(c) all necessary data for the procurement of parts.

B. Numerical Index (where applicable)

(1) The Numerical Index is to help you find part numbers in the Detailed Parts List.

(2) Deleted or superseded part numbers have these identifications:

(a) Deleted - (D)

(b) Superseded - (S)

(3) The Total Required column (TTL REQ.) shows the total necessary each time the
part number is shown in the Detailed Parts List.

C. Detailed Parts List

(1) In general part numbers are in the DISASSEMBLY sequence. The parts are
indented to show that they are related to the next higher assembly (NHA).

(2) The Effectivity Code (EFF. CODE) agrees with that of the next higher assembly.
The effectivity code also shows if subassemblies and details are applicable to their
next higher assembly or sub-assembly. When an item is applicable to all units the
Effectivity Code column will be empty. The effectivity code usage is specific to the
IPL figure to which it applies.

(3) The quantity in the Units per Assembly column is the quantity necessary for the
next higher assembly. AR in the Units per Assembly column shows that the quantity
of parts to be used is as required. RF in the Units per Assembly column shows that
the part is for reference only.

(4) The Part Numbers that are shown (NP) in the Detailed Parts List are
non-procurable items. Unless the part has been superseded the next higher
assembly must be installed.

(5) Parts that have serial numbers are identified in the Detailed Parts List and shown
(SN).

D. Serial Numbers
Some parts have serial numbers (SN). If a part has a serial number, the name column
shows (SN) after the part name in the Detailed Parts List. The location of each parts
serial number is identified in DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION.

2. Words and abbreviations used

The most used words and abbreviations are:
– RF = For reference
