Our Data

7 2 6 3 1

The mean of our data set is 2.2. This is found by inserting the data into the calculator

and calculating 1 VAR STATS. The median is the center number of the data and it is 1.

The standard deviation is 2.496. This is the average of the spread of the data. Our first

quartile is 0. This represents the middle number between the smallest number and the

median. The 3rd quartile is 4. This represents the value in the middle of the median and

the largest data value. The minimum number is the lowest data which is 0. The

maximum number is the highest data value which is 7. This means that the person who

drank the most coffee in a week drank 7 cups, and the person who drank the least,

didn’t drink any at all. We calculated Pearson’s index and it equaled 1.4. We have also

identified no outliers in this data set. In order to calculate the empirical rule and find

certain intervals, we subtracted the mean from the standard deviation. This was the

lower limit, and then those two numbers were added together to create the upper limit.

For 68%, our interval was (-0.3 to 4.7) For 95%, the interval was (-2.8 to 7.2). For

99.7%, the interval was (-5.3 to 9.7) These values represent the percentage of the data
that falls between a certain interval. We would have answered the question as 2 and 1,

so the equation would look like (x ≤ 2) and (x ≤ 1).(x ≤ 1) put into the z formula = to z =

-.48 and the percent is .3156(31%) and (x ≤ 2) put into the z formula = to z = -.08 and

the percent is .4681(46%)

WIth a z score of -.48 and -.08 and using the X bar distribution method we got for the

random as 2 is z=-.43 (.3336) and when the random is 1 the z=-2.63 (.0043) For the X

bar distribution formula.

With the raw data scores, by multiplying the Z score of -1.88 multiplied by the standard

deviation which is 2.496, and then adding the mean which is 2.2 I found the value in

which 3% of my data should fall below.. The value that I got was -2.49. This negative

number represents 0 coffees. The raw data value above which 3% of our data falls is

found by doing the same procedure, but using 97% instead of 3%. The value that we

got for this was 11.095 coffees.
