MTH302 Assignment No.2 2020

Question 1

The marks obtained by 30 students in a subject are given below:

15,20,21,22,35,40,45,16,31,22,26,29,18,41,49,43,48,23,28,32,36,38,24,29,30,46,42,44,25,50
Arrange the data into 8 classes with equal class interval and then find the mean of this grouped
data.
Solution:
Arrangement of Data in 8 Classes (Conversion of Ungroup Data into Grouped Data):
Size of Interval= Range of data ÷ Number of classes
=(Maximum of data-Minimum of data) ÷ 8
=(50-15) ÷ 8
=35 ÷ 8
=4.375
Therefore size 5 is taken
Number of students is discrete continuous data with range is greater than 15 therefore inclusive
method of classification will be adopted.

Mean= ∑fx ÷ ∑f
= 975 ÷ 30
Mean=32.5
Question 2
Find the quartile deviation of the following data.

10, 25, 11, 19, 10, 29, 15, 14, 17

Solution:
Re-arrange data in ascending order
10,10,11,14,15,17,19,25,29

Calculation of Q1 can be done as follows:

Q1 = ¼ (9 + 1)

=¼ (10)

= 2.5th Term

=(2nd term + 3rd term)/2

=(10 + 11)/2

=21/2

Q1=10.5

Calculation of Q3 can be done as follows:

Q3=¾ (9 + 1)
=¾ (10)

= 7.5th Term

=(7th term + 8th term)/2

=(19 + 25)/2

=44/2

Q3=22

Quartile Deviation(Q.D) = Q3 – Q1 / 2

Using quartile deviation formula , we have (22-10.50) / 2

=11.5/2

Q.D.=5.75
