Frequency Distribution Table and Measure of Central Tendency of Ungrouped Data

1. Given are the raw score of 40 students in a 50-item quiz.

17, 25, 30, 33, 25, 45, 23, 19, 27, 35, 45, 48, 20, 38, 39, 18, 44, 22, 46, 26, 36, 29, 15,

21, 50, 47,

34, 26, 37, 25, 33, 49, 22, 33, 44, 38, 46, 41, 37, 32

1.1 Find the value of the range (HS-LS)

R= HS – LS

R= 50 –15

R= 35

1.2 Solve for the value of k (k=1+3.3 log n)

K= 1+3.3 log n

K= 1+3.3 log (40)

K= 6

1.3 Find the class size (ci= R/k)

ci= R/k

ci= 35/6

ci= 6

1.4 Prepare the frequency distribution table

CLASS SIZE FREQUENCY CLASS BOUNDARY CLASS MARK (xm)

15-20 5 14.5-20.5 17.5
21-26 9 20.5-26.5 23.5
27-32 4 26.5-32.5 29.5
33-38 10 33.5-38.5 35.5
39-44 4 38.5-44.5 41.5
45-50 8 44.5-50.5 47.5
N=40

2. The scores of 15 students in a quiz consist of 25 items are the following:

25, 20, 18, 18, 17, 15, 15, 15, 14, 14, 13, 12, 12, 10, 10

2.1 What is the mean?

Solution:

MEAN: 25+20+18+18+17+15+15+15+14+14+13+12+12+10+10

15

MEAN= 15.2

Analysis: The mean performance of 15 students in the quiz is 15.2 . Those students who

got

scores below 15 did not perform well in the said quiz while those students who got scores

above 15 performed well.

2.2. What is the median?

Solution: MEDIAN = 15

Analysis: The median score is 15. 50% or halves of the scores are above 15 and 50% or

Half of the scores are below 15

2.3 What is the mode?

Solution: 15

Analysis: The mode is 15 because it occurred 3 times.
