III.1 HOW DOES IT WORK?


In the action plan you stated what elements and skills need to be improved. Now it is
time to do something about it!
Upload this document in a new folder ‘Part III Star tasks’.

You perform extra tasks based on your level tests from last year / action plan.

 You choose 3 extra tasks, 2 of which are based on your working points (f.ex.
writing is difficult for you: pick a task for writing) and 1 for fun.
 Divide the tasks over at least 2 different skills.
 Perform one task per term. It will be evaluated.
 These tasks are additional and should be performed at home.
 You put these tasks in your online learning portfolio – folder ‘Part III Star tasks’.

You can earn bonus points for extra tasks.


Add clear titles to your documents (f.ex. ‘Voc list unit 1)

III.2 TASKS TO CHOOSE FROM


1 Vocabulary list(s):
 Generate a vocabulary list for each unit (dealt with in class) with
about 20 words per unit (min. 100 words at the end of the year)
 The words are to be numbered (add to 1 list)
 Make word lists, using columns, giving:
- the English word
- a synonym or English explanation
- an example sentence
- translation may be added to the last column – only if you feel it’s
necessary
 you can use wrts.nl to make lists and drill the words

2 You do 10 vocabulary exercises using DIDDIT, the ‘CEFR practice pages’


or the ‘British Council practice pages’ (choose CEFR or British Council
tests of one level above the result your level test showed) on ELO –

VOCABULARY ‘Engels leerplatform’.

GRAMMAR
CULTURE Add screenshots that CLEARLY show the date and the result.

3 You do 10 grammar exercises (irregular verbs - modal verbs - tenses –


adverbs - …) using DIDDIT, the ‘CEFR practice pages’ or the ‘British
Council practice pages’ (choose CEFR or British Council tests of one level
above the result your level test showed) on ELO – ‘Engels leerplatform’.

Add screenshots that CLEARLY show the date and the result.
4 4 You watch a documentary which taught you more about a cultural aspect
5 of an English-speaking country:
 Write 15 lines about it to explain your choice
 Select a minimum of 10 words in the documentary (use English subtitles)
for which you provide the most fitting translation, a synonym and an
example sentence

5 You write a 20 line opinion piece on a topic that caught your attention:
 Use 10 to 15 new words for which you provide the most fitting translation,
a synonym and an example sentence
 Use 5 opinion markers
 Highlight the new words and the opinion markers in a different colour

6 You watch a film / documentary (at least 60 minutes) on a cultural topic


that will teach you something more about the English-speaking world
(e.g. history, biopics, politics, cultural movements…).
 Describe in 400 words / explain in 5 minutes (1) what the
film/documentary is about, (2) what you have learned from it and (3) if
you still want to learn more about this particular cultural topic.

LISTENING
7 You watch an English spoken film related to a cultural topic:
 Write (NOT: copy-paste from the Internet!) a review of 30 sentences

8 You have subscribed to an English podcast on a topic related to the


English culture

 You describe at least 4 episodes


 For each episode you use 10 sentences minimum

9 You watch a season of a show on TV / Netflix / ...


- Describe in 400 words / explain in 5 minutes (1) what it is about and (2)
why your teacher and/or your classmates should (not) watch it.

- If you record your explanation, start with a proper mentioning of the


date, e.g. Today, on the fifteenth of November 2020, I will tell you all
you need to know about Riverdale…

10 You have subscribed to an English podcast on a topic related to


English culture
 You describe at least 4 episodes
 For each episode you use 10 sentences minimum

11 You read two articles (long reads of at least 600 words) on the
Internet:
 Choose one article in connection with a school assignment (from
whatever subject) and one article in connection with your personal field
of interest; add the complete article + the source to your online portfolio
 Look for three statements in each article
 Express your opinion on each statement, using 5 sentences for each
one
READING

12 You read an English newspaper:


 Select three highlights
 Write 10 sentences in total in which you describe the highlights of your
choice

13 You read an English book. Write a review of min. 500 words.

SPEAKING
14 You interview an English teacher:
 Upload an audio or video file of the interview in the designated Drive folder
 The interview consists of at least 10 questions:
- 2 yes / no questions
- 8 open questions: who, what, why, when, where…

15 You record your own 10-15 minute podcast about a topic close to
your heart.

16 You make a vlog during 7 days (about a personal project, a video


diary…) :
 Record 7 videos in which you talk for + 2’ each
 Every video should start with a proper mentioning of the date of
recording:
e.g. Today, on 7 March 2021, I am talking to you about…

WRITING
17 You look up how to structure a text:
 Write a well-structured text of 400 words about a topic of your choice.
 Include a before and after version.

18 You write a monologue / speech of 400 words:


 Include 4 rhetorical devices of the list on Engels leerplatform:

 Highlight or underline the lines of the monologue in which you used a
rhetorical device and mention its name in brackets

19 You write a review of an English / Australian / American film / movie


you saw:
 Use the writing frame in your workbook p. 91-92.
 Pay special attention to the correct use of adjectives and adverbs.
 Check your writing with a tool of your choice (Grammarly…)

20 You write a formal email and send it to an English, American or


Australian organisation of your choice.
 Write a draft version
 Check your draft with Grammarly
 Write your final email and send it.
 Take screenshots, also of the answer you receive, that clearly show
the date.

III.3 PROOF
Of course your teacher needs to see proof of your hard work, in order to mark / grade
your work. How do you do that?

1 Upload all your screenshots and files in the ‘Star tasks’ folder in Google Drive.
2 Copy and paste hyperlinks to those files in your Google Drive folder underneath each
header.
3 Add clear titles to your documents (f.ex. Task 1 Voc list unit 1).
