ADULT COURSE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Course Description
The course description should contain the following information:

• A description of the evaluation for the course and how the final grade is taken. (ex.
70% assessment tasks completed in and out of the class & final project + 30% final
exam and speaking task = FINAL GRADE) This is information that teachers have
always been asked to share with their students on the first day of class. It is not
something new because of the online context.

• Information on how to contact the teacher if there are any difficulties (how to
send a private message) and times when the teacher will be available to answer
questions. It is important for the teacher to define their “schedule” especially for
part-time teachers who are not on Schoology as much as full-time teachers. For
example, if the course is in the evening, the teacher can state that they will be
available at noon for 1 hour two days a week, and then again an hour before the
regular class schedule. This way the student knows when they can log on to post a
question and expect an answer from the teacher.

• Finally, the course topics in brief. Since the student matrix is shared with them as
well, the topics can simply be listed and/or the overall objective(s) of the course.

Any additional information that you may want to include might pertain to your
expectations of the students, basic tips and strategies to help them be successful in the
course, or anything that exemplifies your own teaching style.

The course description can be shared/or posted in a variety of manners such as slides, a
poster, or an infographic.
