Amendments to the Programme Regulations for 2020-21 only

The 2020-21 Programme Regulations have been suspended to permit:

 CertHE students to transfer to the LLB if they have passed two modules;
 continuing LLB students to register for five modules; and
 LLB finalists to register for six modules.

Certificate of Higher Education in the Common Law

Regulations 2.5 and 9.1 have been amended. Usually CertHE students are only permitted to
transfer to the Standard Entry LLB after passing three modules including Legal system and
method. In 2020-21, a student who has passed any two modules may transfer these credits to
the LLB. The student must have either completed their attendance for all four modules of the
CertHE or fulfil the attendance requirements this year. The full text of the two amended
regulations is set out below.

2.5 A CertHE Common Law student who has passed at least two modules and has
fulfilled the attendance requirements for all four modules may apply for credit transfer
up to a maximum of four Level 4 modules on the Standard Entry LLB. A CertHE
Common Law student who has not fulfilled the attendance requirements for all four
modules must fulfil the attendance requirements for any remaining module(s)
concurrently with any Level 5 modules they register for in 2020-21.

9.1 If you pass a minimum of two modules on the CertHE Common Law and have
satisfied the attendance requirements or will satisfy them in 2020-21, you may apply to
transfer your registration to the Standard Entry LLB.

Regulation 9.3 remains in force and a student who transfers to the LLB before completing the
CertHE is not eligible to receive the CertHE award.

Standard Entry
The Standard Entry progression rules have been amended to allow continuing students to
progress from Level 4 to Level 5 after passing one Level 4 module and to progress from Level
5 to Level 6 after passing four modules. A Standard Entry student in their final academic year
is one who has passed six modules by the end of the 2019-20 academic year. The
October/November 2020 examinations are in the 2019-20 academic year and so some
students will only be able to determine if 2020-21 is their final academic year once the results
of these examinations are published in December. The full text of the four amended
regulations is set out below.

7.2 If your effective date of registration is 1 November, you must, in your first academic
year, register for a minimum of one module and may register for a maximum of four
modules. You may register for a maximum of five modules in subsequent academic
years and may register for a maximum of six modules in your final academic year.
7.3 If your effective date of registration is 1 May, you must, in your first academic year,
register for a minimum of one module and may register for a maximum of two
modules. You may register for a maximum of five modules in subsequent academic
years and a maximum of six modules in your final academic year.

7.6 To progress to Level 5 you must pass at least one Level 4 module and be
concurrently registered for any remaining Level 4 modules.

7.9 To progress to Level 6 you must pass the Level 4 modules or at least four modules
from Level 4 and Level 5 combined and be concurrently registered for any remaining
Level 4 and Level 5 modules.

Graduate Entry
The Graduate Entry progression rules have been amended to allow those who chose to study
the three Level 4 modules only to progress to Level 5 after passing one Level 4 module and
those who have passed two modules to progress to Level 6. A Graduate Entry student in their
final academic year is one who has passed three modules by the end of the 2019-20 academic
year. The October/November 2020 examinations are in the 2019-20 academic year and so
some students will only be able to determine if 2020-21 is their final academic year once the
results of these examinations are published in December. The full text of the five amended
regulations is set out below.

7.12 If your effective date of registration is 1 November, you must, in your first
academic year, register for a minimum of one module and may register for a
maximum of four modules. You may register for a maximum of five modules in
subsequent academic years and may register for a maximum of six modules in your
final academic year.

7.13 If your effective date of registration is 1 May, you must, in your first academic
year, register for a minimum of one module and may register for a maximum of two
modules. You may register for a maximum of five modules in subsequent academic
years and a maximum of six modules in your final academic year.

7.17 If you register for up to three modules in your first academic year, you must pass
at least one Level 4 module and be concurrently registered for the remaining Level 4
modules before progressing to Level 5.

7.19 If you register for four modules in your first academic year, which must include
Tort law [LA2001], you must pass at least one Level 4 module and be concurrently
registered for Tort law [LA2001] and the remaining Level 4 modules before registering
for any other Level 5 modules.

7.20 To progress to Level 6 you must pass at least two Level 4 modules or one Level 4
module and one Level 5 module and be concurrently registered for any remaining
Level 4 and Level 5 modules.
