Medical Lab Technicians are important members of any clinical laboratory team. Medical Lab Technicians analyze fluid, tissues and
blood samples to perform a variety of diagnoses. They generally work under the supervision of a pathologist. On successful
completion of the course, students can work in hospitals, diagnostic labs, blood banks and medical clinics.

Objectives
After completionof the course, participantswill be able to:
Ÿ Conduct chemical analysis of body uids, such as blood or
urine, using microscope or automatic analyzer to detect
abnormalities or diseases.
Ÿ Analyze the results of tests or experiments to ensure conformity
to specications, using special mechanical or electrical devices.
Ÿ Set up, maintain, calibrate, clean, and test sterility of medical
laboratory equipment.
Ÿ Collect blood or tissue samples from patients, observing
principles of asepsis to obtain blood samples.
Ÿ Conduct blood tests for transfusion purposes and perform
blood counts.
Ÿ Inoculate fertilized eggs, broths, or other bacteriological media
with organisms.
Ÿ Consult with a pathologist to determine a nal diagnosis when
abnormalities are found.
Ÿ Analyze and record test data to issue reports.
