Scale 1:100 The room's transportability is provided by three groups of rails, two for 4
horizontal traverse ("X" and "Y" axis) and one for vertical. Rails are
retractable, on hydraulic pistons so that when the room is moving in "X"
direction, "Y" and "Z" groups are retracted. When direction is to change to

"Y", the room stops, "Y" group is extended, then "X" retracts and the room

56.00 56.00 Accessibility concept for Hotel

52.00
Hotel Elevation. Axis 11-2 52.00
Our project of the hotel is made according to “Access for all” conception. Unlike any other hotel, where the
visitor must make his way upstairs to his room or to take the elevator, in our hotel the room itself comes to the
Scale 1:200 visitor. We consider this method to be very convenient for both - healthy and disabled people. Just imagine:
48.00 48.00 instead of the elevator, you get your own hotel room right in the hotel’s reception and it takes you wherever you
like!
The hotel has four entrances: north-west, south-west and two on the east. A visitor can get inside the hotel with
44.00 44.00
any of these doors, either on car (from Glockenturmstrasse), or on foot/using the monorail. After entering the
foyer (H1) guest must be registered in the reception. After that he calls his room down and waits for it in one of
40.00 40.00 “receivers” (H8). The receivers are places where rooms come down. There are four of them, one for each part
of the building (North, South, West and East). Visitor gets into the room and takes an empty slot in the hotel
36.00 36.00 structure.
When necessary, separated members of one sports team can come down with their rooms and reunite on the
32.00 32.00
first (or, if wanted, second) floor, take their part in competitions in the buildings nearby and then return to the
hotel. They can stay on the first floor and have dinner in the restaurant (H2), rest in the fitness/relaxation rooms
(H29), or swim in the pool (H28). On the other hand, they can make their way to the second floor where they
28.00 28.00 can make a conference in the Conference room, have a meeting, debriefing, attend seminar (H21) or visit the
exhibition (H18). There’s even a banquet hall for special events (H23). After all activities they will be able to
24.00 24.00 call their rooms wherever they like and get back to their favorite places so that they won’t even need to use the
elevator or the stairs.
20.00 20.00 Because of safety and emergency reasons there are located simple ramps (H35) in the hotel and in each part of
the building there is an “emergency walkway” to leave the room in case of emergency, but generally, if not
emergency, they’re nothing more than just a decoration for hotel foyer.
16.00 16.00 Of course, our conception has many flaws and most problematic is the fact, that all rooms need much more
maintenance than in an ordinary hotel (cleaning, maintaining all mechanical parts in their best condition, etc.),
12.00 12.00 so special technical requirements are applied, but anyway, the idea itself seems to be useful as it offers a
customer maximum comfort and what’s more important - access for all!

36.00 Accessibility concept for visually impaired people

32.00 The most complicated part in "Access for all" conception is to comfort
visually impaired persons. Those who are partially or fully blind and
almost can't move on their own. Simple walkways can be dangerous for
28.00
them as well as the crossroads and open spaces. Our project offers safe
walkway from Pichelsberg station towards equestrian center to the east
24.00 and to the hotel/Waldbuhne to the north. The road has no crossings which
means that there's no danger for impaired people to get injuried by any
20.00 kind of transports. Besides, our monorail seems to be the most
convenient way to move around the park for visually impaired. Each
16.00
wagon has a built-in speaker which provides passengers with necessary
information about their location wagon's position (whether it is elevated
or descended) and door status (open/closed).
12.00 The hotel provides even more comfort - its moving rooms are the best
solution as long as visually impaired guest doesn't need to look for an
8.00 elevator and then travel through the corridor to hipothetical location of
his room. Instead he only needs to find the room receiever. Everything
else depends on the room itself which also has built-in speaker and voice
command system so that noone has to dial desired location on the control
panel. Easy to use system for guests indeed.

W3 W3
Accessibility Concept for Pichelsberg station and Waldbuhne
W3 W3
W2 Because of the main concept of Schindler Award - “access for all” some major changes were made to
W14 Pichelsberg station and Waldbuhne theater. In our project, the passenger platform of Pichelsberg station is
elevated on six meters above normal and two railroads are unified within the territory of the station. The
W2 change we made gives us ability to remove all stairs from station and the middle platform itself. Though two
W14 W1
1 railroads are united, it doesn’t interrupt a train schedule. Remainig, elevated two platforms (S1 on the plan) are
W6
1 sloped for 7% and are connected to each other by pedestrian bridge (S9 on the plan). Thus, a visitor can come
W1 W7 to Pichelsberg station by train, then get off at any platform he wants, and continue his way either on foot, or
W1 by suspended monorail, which interconnects all structures of Berlin Olympic park. The monorail has not only
2,202
W14 transportation, but also excursional function. The wagon itself has special mechanism which allows it to
W1
258 W10
W9 descend when necessary, as shown on scheme below:

W2 W1
W1 W1 W14
Thanks to that mechanism, major problem for people with impaired mobility is solved: There is no necessity
W1
W12 to have monorail stations elevated above the ground. Thus, there is no necessity to have either ramps, or stairs.
So there is no extra obstacle for disabled people.
W1
W1 The main structure of Berlin Olympic park is Waldbuhne. As mentioned before, it can be accessed either by
W3
monorail, or on foot. Both ways lead to the main entrance. Four roads lead to the theaters seats from here.
W1
W3 Three of them lead to the upper level of seats while fourth road which has 7% slope, leads directly to lower
W1 levels. Seats for disabled people (W1) are equally spread on lower levels of the seats (in order to improve
W1 W3
W4
W1 W14 stage visibility and also to integrate healthy and disabled people). If a person with impaired mobility wishes to
W4
W2 W3 go to upper level of seats, he doesn’t need to go up by ramp. He can use one of two elevating platforms
W11 instead. Platforms are situated on the edges of the theater seats (W14).
W4
W2 Four toilets (W2) with total area of 480 sq.m. and 11 fast food kiosks (W3) are situated around the theater.
W1
W1 New technicians' and artists’ rooms (W8) are planned behind the stage and existing technical structure and are
hidden underground.
