6.14. LOAD LIMITER

Control and Inspections / Maintenance Operations

ATTENTION! For safety prescriptions during the following operations, refer to § 6.3 GENERAL
NOTES.

At start-up, after three months and, subsequently, every 12 months:

• Check the load limiter calibration. To this purpose, use a load equal to the nominal capacity, plus two
additional loads which are equal to 30% of nominal value and divided into 6 equal parts (each equal to
5%). Raise the nominal load about 30 cm from the ground, then, keeping it still, add one load at a
time, making sure that the load limiter intervenes with an overload between 10% and 20% of nominal
capacity. Otherwise, ask the Technical Assistance Service of the Manufacturer to restore calibration.
ATTENTION!
ATTENTION! The load limiter is a safety device prepared by the Manufacturer for its intended use.
For no reason is it allowed to use the crane if the load limiter is not calibrated or to
tamper the the load limiter in order to increase crane capacity or modify its
performance!

6.16 Traversing and Bridge Travel Motors

Bridge travel and trolley traversing are performed with a three-phase induction motor with squirrel
cage, with separate braking group.

6.16.5. How to Adjust the Braking Distance (both for trolley

traversing and bridge travel)

At start-up:
ATTENTION! Crane power must be on in order to perform the following operations. Therefore, the
emergency radio remote control must be kept at hand’s reach for the maintenance
operator and nobody else, in order to prevent dangerous manoeuvres and to timely
act on controls and on the stop button. See § 6.3 GENERAL NOTES for safety
prescriptions.
1. Mark a visible reference point on the rail (see figure 6.12 – point 1) in a safe place, far from end stops and
the edges of the limit switches.
2. Make the bridge and trolley move at maximum speed and full load. Make sure the trolley is halfway form
the heads. Push the stop button when the front wheel is aligned with the marked reference (see Figure
6.12).
3. Measure the breaking distance with load x2 (see Figure ).
4. Regulate the brake making sure that x2 is lower than 1 m. Given D as the distance of the limit switches’
edges and the end stops (see figure 6.12), it should be: D > x2 + 400 mm. For the bridge brakes, repeat
the regulation for both motors, so that braking is regular and parallel and that breaking distance is the
same for both sides.
5. Mark down the x2 value, corresponding to the calibration made.
6. Repeat measure on point 2 without load.
7. Measure braking distance without load x1 (see Figure 6.12) and mark down the value.

USE AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL FOR DOUBLE GIRDER CRANE

Every day before operating the crane:

• Without load and at minimum speed: check that braking distance of the trolley and bridge is regular
enough and reasonably short. In order to control bridge braking, make sure that the trolley is halfway
between the two heads.
Three months after start-up, then subsequently every 12 months:
1. Make the bridge/trolley move at maximum speed and without load. For the bridge, make sure the
trolley is halfway between the heads. Push the stop button when the front wheel is aligned with the
marked reference (see Figure 6.12)
2. Measure braking distance without load x3 (see Figure 6.12).
8. If x3 < x1 + 200 mm, regulate the brake in order to restore x1 braking distance. For the bridge brakes,
repeat the regulation for both motors, so that braking is regular and parallel and that breaking distance is
the same for both sides.

6.17 Traversing and Bridge Travel Motors

The gearbox installed on the hoist group is provided with spur gears with parallel shafts in watertight
case. Closing cap is provided with a pressure safety valve to let the gases produced inside the case
out.
Standard lubrication is carried out with ISO VG 220 oil (see also § 6.2 INDICATIONS ON
LUBRICANTS).

Controls and Inspections / Maintenance Operations

ATTENTION!
ATTENTION! For safety prescriptions during the following operations, refer to § 6.3 GENERAL
NOTES.

At start-up, after three months and, subsequently, every 12 months. Check bolts tightening and relative
crushing of the anti-vibration bushing (equal to 1.5 mm max)
• Check the oil level in the gearbox. Top it up, if necessary
• Make sure the venting cap is not obstructed.
Every 60 months:
• Change the oil if gearboxes are lubricated with mineral oil.
• ATTENTION! Dispose of waste oil responsibly after use!
