"Popular history of Great War in modern Serbian naratives"

There are many great stories to be told about First World war, or “The Great War” how it’s
sometimes named in popular postmodern discourse. But where is the place of history as science in these
naratives? And, furthermore, what is the definition of Popular History? If we classify popular history as a
genre with an aim of reaching the wide readership groups, how we treat the genre of history, which is
built on narration much more than on the theory of history. By studying the popular history of the First
World War, we can notice certain trends, but also better understand the advantages and disadvantages of
popular history in building a healthy public attitude towards history. The trends that move towards
personal expirience of the war rather than great political narative ar seen in local popular history as in the
global one – most recent examples are Milunka Savić – soldier from WWI and the movie 1917. Mulunka

KaimakcalComparing these two cases of popular history, we can observe interesting trends in market
adjustment, but also the gradual "unconscious" follow-up of the theory of history.
