some linguistic hierarchy.

2- Thomas is currently speaking German, Czech, Russian and Japanese. Should we

consider him either as a simultaneous bilingual or as an elective bilingual? state
your reasons. (5pts)
Answer: Based on the information provided, Thomas appears to be a simultaneous bilingual.
Simultaneous bilingualism occurs when a person acquires two languages at the same time,
typically from birth or during early childhood. In this case, it seems that Thomas has been
exposed to German, Czech, Russian, and Japanese from an early age and has acquired them
simultaneously.
Elective bilingualism, on the other hand, refers to the intentional learning of a second
language later in life, usually for practical or personal reasons. Since it is not clear from the
information provided whether Thomas learned these languages later in life or acquired them
simultaneously from an early age, it would be safer to assume that he is a simultaneous
bilingual.
