Children at Bronte School wore their finest pyjamas as they walked through the gates this
morning. It was all to take part in Pyjamarama, the BookTrust's annual fundraising celebration.
The children enjoyed lots of different activities throughout the day, but I think being in PJs all
day proved too exciting for our Kindergarten children, as they wanted a sleep!!
BookTrust is the UK's largest children's reading charity, and the money raised will be used to
support children across the UK facing disadvantage access books and reading support to ensure
that every child gets a bedtime story.
Thank you to everyone who donated, we raised an impressive £220.66. As you can see, the
children had a very enjoyable day ...

The sun was shining for the children while they were walking around London and their eagle eyes spotted
many famous buildings and statues. Once they’d arrived at the Education Centre, the children (and adults)
had to go through an airport style security check. They were then taken to their first destination: The House of
Lords.
Visiting the House of Lords was an extra special treat on this occasion because the Lords were actually
debating while the children were in there! They even spotted Theresa May and the Archbishop of Canterbury
- wow!
Although Year 5 weren’t allowed in the House of Commons (because Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was in
there answering lots of questions), they still got to spot many other features of the amazing building including:
Westminster Hall, The Speaker’s State Coach, The Central Lobby (where TV crews were filming) statues of
famous figures in British history and Saint Stephen’s Hall.
After their incredible tour, the children were treated to a debating workshop where they were able to show off
their debating skills. The question for the house was: Should homework be banned? The discussion got quite
heated at times and Madam Speaker had to call ‘Order!’ on more than one occasion. Watch out: we certainly
have a few future politicians among us.
Finally Adam Holloway, our local MP, visited the children. He shared some of his life experiences and
answered the children’s questions. He made his views on homework very clear: it should absolutely not be
banned.
It must also be added that the children’s behaviour was exceptional, all day. The adults who held the tour and
ran the workshop all commented on what bright, brilliant children they all are. As always, they did Bronte
School proud. Well done Year 5.

Lower down the school, a burgeoning love of reading was evident in Reception
and Kindergarten Classes when they visited the library this week, sharing books
with friends and adults. I wonder how many of these young children will become a
Bronte School Reading Guru, like Avtar?

Well done to all our mathletes this week who have been busy honing their skills outside of the

done in making the playground such an inviting and equitable place. Shay in Kindergarten has
excelled with his recent swimming lessons and he proudly showed us his Achievement Award

Mrs Wood was delighted that not one but two Headmistress’ Commendations were awarded
today! Mrs Singh asked for Hanaa in Year 4 to be nominated for commitment in class and her
growing confidence and self-assurance. In Year 1, Preston was recognised for his exemplary
manners, caring nature and his ‘can do’ attitude in all areas of school life.
JJ in Year 3 and Esperanza in Year 5 saw their dedication and hard-work in Karate rewarded
with a green belt. Yuvraj in Year 3 and Amrita in Year 4 were delighted to tell us they had been
awarded their grade one belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu after a year of diligence. Well done to them all.
Last week Bronte School's General
Knowledge team took part in this year's
semi-finals. The children worked hard as a
team and we are delighted to announce that
they scored a place in this year’s FINALS.
