Pyjamarama Day at Bronte School
On Friday, Bronte School took part in 'Pyjamarama Day'. This is a special day where children all around
the UK spend the day enjoying and sharing stories (all in the comfort of their pyjamas) to help raise
important money ensuring that every child can enjoy a bedtime story. Money is raised on behalf of 'The
Book Trust' charity whose aim is to get every child reading. Each year, they reach millions of children
with books and resources to support their reading at home and in school.

At our school, the children enjoyed wearing their comfy PJs during their lessons, sharing stories and
taking part in various activities that celebrate the joy of reading. A huge thank you to all the Bronte
families who made donations at the gate on Friday morning, we managed to raise a total of £276.44 for
the Book Trust. Thank you very much.

Let there be light……in Year 3!

Year 3 continued to explore light this week. The children were given some challenges:

• To prove that light travels in straight lines

• To try changing the direction of light
• To see what happens to writing in a mirror

The children had great fun experimenting and making their own discoveries.

Kindergarten have been listening to the story of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar”
exploring all the different healthy fruits it munched through. The children decided to
make some super healthy smoothies, I think they enjoyed them!

The Very Hungry Book Club enjoyed making fruit kebabs

after listening to the story ‘Kitchen Disco.’ We even had
time to try a little breakdancing and conga-ing of our own!
It was a great deal of fun.

On Thursday Kent Fire and Rescue visited us and spoke to all the children, from Kindergarten to
Year 6. Among other things, the children learnt about fire safety in the home and that smoke
alarms need to be tested once a week to make sure they are working properly. They tried on some
of the special clothing fire fighters wear when attending fires and learnt about the materials they
are made from.
It was a very informative visit enjoyed by all the children.

A big well done to Musa in Year 5 who

was awarded this certificate and trophy
for winning a swimming gala for his
swimming club.
What an amazing achievement!

Class Two at the ZOO

It was a fun packed, wild day out for our

Year 2 children on Wednesday. Children met
Kent’s only anteaters, the countries only
Honey badger, the largest herd of African
elephants in the UK, crowned lemurs and a
variety of monkeys and gorillas.

Children listened to the ‘Hungry Hunter’s

talk’ with a Zookeeper and learnt about the
African painted dogs and Siberian tigers!

The children thoroughly enjoyed their day

out and learnt many interesting facts, which
they then discussed in further
detail during their Science lessons.

Reception and Kindergarten visited

our local garage this week. They
watched as the mechanics changed
a tyre on a car. The car moving up
and down on the ramp was vey
exciting as well as the sound of the
air being released from the tyres.
The children found out that
mechanics need to be good at
measuring and had a close look at
the numbers on tyre gauges.

Maths in Year 4
Do you know how the short division method works? Are you able to explain it to someone else? Not as
easy as it sounds! Well, Year 4 have been practising this method and have used place value counters to
show how the exchanges take place.

This week Year 5 were Foetal Development Detectives!

On Monday, Mrs Lippard went to the shops and she bought 1

raisin, 1 grape, 1 small lemon, 1 large avocado, 1 coconut, 1 mango,
1 turnip, 1 lettuce, 1 papaya and 1 pumpkin! Why ...?

... Because the children were curious to learn about when and how
an embryo becomes a foetus so Mrs Green planned a lesson to
teach them how! Did you know that a foetus is approximately the
size of a grape at 8 weeks old? But by the time it is 36 weeks old, it
is about the size of a papaya!

The children also learned how a foetus grows and changes as the
weeks pass during a human's gestation period. There was lots to
remember ... but Year 5 can now teach you some facts about foetal
development.

Football Report – by Mr J
On Friday Years 5 and 6 took part in a football tournament at Riverview School. We took a team of
girls and a team of boys to play matches against Culverstone School and 2 teams from Riverview. In
a really well planned and fun tournament our teams fared brilliantly. The boys winning all 3 of
their games (9-0, 5-0 and 2-1) and the girls winning 2 and drawing 1 of their games without
conceding a goal all tournament (4-0, 6-0, 0-0).

The boys goals came from Kaelo (4), Archie (2), Avtar (3), Matthew (3), Jai (2), Denzel & Veer, all
seven of the team scoring!

The girls goals came from Alina (5, ALL IN THE SAME MATCH!), Taya (3) and Ruby (2).

A really positive and enjoyable day, well done to all involved!

Year 1 also enjoyed a visit to Howletts Wild Animal Park this week. The children spent
time observing and learning different facts about the animals that live there, including
their diets and natural habitats. The children were lucky enough to take part in a 'Hungry
Hunters' workshop with one of the zookeepers, where they learnt about the behaviour of
different predators. We all had a fantastic day and there were certainly some tired
children on the minibus journey home.
