Athletics Report – by Mr J

On Thursday of this week 14 children from Years 3 & 4 (including one Year 2 child!) competed in the Sports
Hall Athletics Competition at Cobham Hall.

Six track and six field events shared between our athletes took place in a really competitive, but sporting,
tournament Our Bronte team finished as runners up, just 2 points away from the Gold Medals (we scored
240 points, the winners 242, it all went down to the last event!)

I was so proud of all the children, who in turn were quite rightly very proud of their Silver Medals!

Well done to all of you, a fantastic effort

Following our brilliant second place finish on Thursday in the Year 3 and 4 Sports Hall Athletics, on Friday
morning 14 boys and girls from Years 5 and 6 went to Cobham hall to compete in the same events.

Some brilliant team performances on the track, combined with some truly excellent individual results in
the field events (Rayo and Diana clearing the Triple Jump mat for example!) meant that we went one better
and came out in first place and overall winners!

So proud of the attitude, ability and application of all our pupils. We work hard on these 3 A’s in PE, and
this week showed what happens when you combine them, well done to everyone.

NB. If anyone would like a detailed breakdown on who won the teachers competition, I’m happy to provide it!

Lots going on in Reception…..

Forest school was a little drier this week and

featured a ‘hot chocolate’ shop, ramp building
and tree climbing. Some of the children built an
amazing camp.

Meanwhile back in the classroom, the

children have been taking very good
care of Eric and Ernie. They have been
enjoying lots of cuddles recently as we
learn about different animals.

Did you know a baby

Guinea pig is called a
pup?

Primary Bee Heat 1 Winners

Here are our Primary Bee Heat 1 Winners with their certificates recognising their excellent
achievement in German translation.

Best of luck to all of them for Heat 2 which will run before the end of term.

Fruit-tella Maths

Year 3 have enjoyed some

Fruit-tella maths this week. It’s
amazing how much maths you can
get from a bar of sweets: 3d shape
properties, measuring, perimeter,
fractions and even statistics.

Year 6 Leadership Accreditation

Over the last few months, Year 6 have been busy
working on their Leadership Accreditation. As part of
this, a number of students planned, organised and
delivered an English Lesson to Year 1. It was a
wonderful success and all the children involved
(Nidhi, Nyah, Savera and Saoirse) should be very
proud of what they accomplished. Below, we have a
brilliantly written report from Nyah and Saoirse.

Last Friday, we taught Year 1 an English lesson based on the book they are currently focusing
on, ’Katie In London’. Initially, we read the book to the children and asked them comprehension
questions about the story. This was followed by a fun game; the Year 6 children hid fifteen
questions around the classroom for the younger children to find. The Year 1 children had fun
looking for the questions in the classroom. Afterwards, the Year 1 children were split into small
groups. They were tasked with reading the questions aloud and we discussed and answered the
questions together.

Y1 taught us a lot about teaching. It's not about what goes wrong, it's about what was engaging,
useful and fun! Thank you Y1 for all the lovely comments and feedback you gave us all.
Thank you Mrs Ellis for giving us the opportunity to do this. By Nyah and Saoirse

Assembly
During our Celebration Assembly this morning, Nidhi in Year 6 was nominated as the Playleader of the
Month. Mrs. Hine noted that she showed real kindness and care to the younger children and that she had
a proactive attitude. Nidhi creates wonderful games for others to play that include and involve everyone.
Ellie in Year 4 was recognised as our Lunchtime Superstar, Mrs. Salter observed her engaging in some
wonderful play and forming lovely friendships with her peers. Ellie is a polite, considerate and kind pupil.

Congratulations to Gia in Reception, she was awarded a special certificate from the Centre Stage Theatre
Academy for her amazing acting. Ethan in Year 3 showed us all a wonderful medal that he received for
successfully completing a recent LCR Football Camp. Jotham in Year 5 was very pleased to receive his
Bronze Writing Certificate. Mrs. Green was very impressed with the hard work Jotham put into following
the targets set for him in English.

Year 6 History: Why did Britain go to War in 1939? (By Saoirse, Savera and Nidhi)

In history we have been thinking about the steps that led to World War II.

We started off looking at some of the terms of The Treaty of Versailles; we learned that Germany
had to take responsibility for World War 1, they were not allowed to make a new alliance with
Austria and they had to pay lots of money in 'Reparations'.

We also learned about Appeasement. This was the name given to British Prime Minister Neville
Chamberlain's attempt to avoid war with Germany. It enabled Hitler to invade areas of Europe,
without quarrel, in the hope that it would prevent him from making further demands.

We then had a debate with half of the class arguing for appeasement and half against it and
ended our lesson with a class vote on whether appeasement was a good idea.

We had a lot of strong opinions but in the end the vote was evenly split.

This term, Kindergarten are learning all about animals.

The children have learnt how to be a responsible pet
owner and have found out how they can help look
after the local wildlife too. They have even been
visited by some furry friends and taken a trip to feed
the ducks!

We all had a lot of fun.

Year 5 Maths
Over the last few weeks, Year 5 have been unpicking the relationships
between decimals, fractions and percentages. The children were challenged
to complete a tarsia puzzle that looked for equivalents. Each group had to use
their investigatory skills and work collaboratively with their partners in order to
fit the puzzle together. It was pleasing to see the children use the learning
they had accumulated during this topic and apply it to a problem.
