Football  –  Report  by  Mr  J

On  Wednesday  our  Year  3  and  4  football  team  took  part  in  the  inaugural  ISA  under  9’s  football
tournament   in   Sidcup.     Sixteen   teams   entered   and   Bronte   made   a   winning   start,   beaGng   St
Olaves  1-‐0,  courtesy  of  a  header  from  Jai.

We   then   drew   1-‐1   with   St   David’s   Prep   in   a   great   game,   Jai   again   with   our   goal.   That   leP
ourselves  and  St  David’s  level  at  the  top  of  the  group  and  so  a  penalty  shootout  had  to  decide
who  won  the  group.  We  triumphed  in  a  nervous  shoot  out,  4-‐2.

We  went  through  to  the  semi  finals  where  we  drew  1-‐1,  Jai  scoring  in  his  third  straight  game.
Our  penalty  luck  ran  out  as  we  lost  3-‐2.

In  the  3rd  vs  4th  playoff  we  beat  Babbington  House  2-‐1,  Kaelo  scoring  a  wonderful  long  range
goal  and  Avtar  with  a  long  range  free  kick  (two  Year  3  pupils  scoring  our  goals!).

Undefeated  in  our  1st  tournament  as  a  team  I  was  so  proud  of  all  players.  Special  menGons  to
Jai   for   his   goal   scoring,   Taya   for   her   amazing   defending   (drawing   several   comments   from
opposiGon  coaches  and  parents!)  and  Denzil  for  his  superhuman  long  throws  that  created  lots
of  chances  for  us.

Well  done  to  the  whole  team:  Taya,  Jai,  Archie,  Veer,  MaJhew,  Kaelo,  Avtar  &  Denzil.

Year  5  &  6  Visit  –  Report  by  Miss  Walters

and  Mrs  PrescoJ
On   Wednesday,   Year   5   and   6   stepped   out   of   the
classroom  and  into  the  magical  world  of  Harry  Po]er!

Upon   arrival,   we   enjoyed   a   'costume   distressing'
workshop  which  was  absolutely  fascinaGng.  The  children
invesGgated   how   costume   can   reflect   character   and
used   a   variety   of   tools   to   have   a   go   themselves!
APerwards,  the  grand  tour  began  …...

From  props  to  costumes,  sets  to  special  effects,  we  were
all  ASTONISHED  by  how  much  work  goes  on  behind  the
scenes   of   film-‐making.   Did   you   know   that   altogether
there   were   588   sets   built   for   the   8   Harry   Po]er   films?
Highlights   had   to   be   wandering   through   Hogwarts
Express,   creeping   through   the   forbidden   forest,   circling
the  Hogwarts  Castle  and  screaming  at  the  dragon  hidden
in  Gringo]s  Bank!  Not  to  menGon  the  Great  Hall,  trying
bu]er  beer,  spogng  the  golden  snitch  in  every  set  AND
gegng  our  Harry  Po]er  passports  stamped.

As   always,   the   children   were   brilliantly   behaved   and   it
was  a  pleasure  to  watch  their  faces  light  up  as  their  jaws
dropped  in  awe  of  the  sights  before  them!      A  magical
day  was  had  by  all!

Quidditch
The   ‘Harry   Po]er’   theme   conGnued   for   Years   5   and   6   when
back  at  school  this  week,  with  a  PE  lesson  learning  how  to  play
Quidditch!!

CelebraUon  Assembly
We   were   delighted   to   give   out   a   Pen   Licence   in   CelebraGon   Assembly   today   to   Tommy   in   Year   4.
Mrs  Singh  commented  upon  the  quality  of  his  handwriGng,  especially  so  early  on  in  the  academic
year.

Two  other  achievements  outside  of  school  were  celebrated  this  morning.  Proudly  wearing  their
jeans  (for  our  Jeans  for  Genes  Day)  were  Rayo  (Year  2)  who  was  awarded  a  karate  white  belt  and
Annabel   (Year   3)   who   was   Gravesend's   Player   of   the   week.   It   is   wonderful   to   see   our   children
achieving  great  things  outside  of  school  too.  Well  done.

Bronte’s  Bollywood  Stars

This   week   in   Bollywood   Dancing   Club,   children   have   been   learning   some   fantasGc   choreography.   They
have   incorporated   some   bhangra   style   dance   moves   in   their   rouGne   such   as   Dhamal,   Jhumar   and
Bedi.   Lots   of   noise   could   be   heard   echoing   around   the   school   as   children   also   had   the   opportunity   to
have  a  go  at  playing  the  Dhol!  (double  headed  drum).    Great  fun  was  had  by  all.

Year  6  studying  the  stars….

This   week   Year   6   took   part   in   an
invesGgaGon  to  find  out  the  relevant  sizes
of   the   Sun,   Moon   and   the   Earth   and   the
distances   between   them.   Many   children
were   very   close   to   the   relevant   sizes,
which   were   represented   by   a   beach   ball
(Sun),   marble   (Earth)   and   a   hundreds   and
thousands  cake  decoraGon  (Moon).    As  to
the  distances  -‐  can  you  guess?  If  you're  not
sure,  ask  a  Year  6  pupil  ………….

Highland  Games!  Report  by  Mr  J

On  Thursday,  six  children  from  Years  3  and  4  took  part
in   the   Highland   Games   fesGval,   hosted   by   Whitehill
School.    A  number  of  variaGons  on  tradiGonal  Scogsh
Games   were   played   by   the   children   in   a   tournament
full   of   fun   and   enjoyment.     We   started   with   a   KilGe
Dash   (sprinGng!)   before   moving   on   to   Haggis   Chucking,
Highland   Steps,   Tug   Of   War,   Caber   Tossing   and   Welly
throwing!!     We   then   competed   in   a   tug   of   war
compeGGon  to  end  with  (which  we  got  to  the  final  of!).
We   finished   a   fantasGc   3rd   of   12   teams,   narrowly
missing   out   on   the   trophy   by   just   10   points.   A   great
performance  by  all  and  a  really  enjoyable  day.

Well  done  to  Omololu,  EllioJ,  Janai,  Poppy,  Maija  and
Milo

Spot  the  Wellie……

With   many   of   our   Year   6   leavers   featured   in   last   week’s
Newsle]er,  I  asked  one  of  them  to  let  us  know  how  he  is
se]ling  into  his  new  school……

I   was   very   nervous   and   sad   about   leaving   Year   6
and   star5ng   Gravesend   Grammar   School,   but   I   have
thoroughly   enjoyed   my   first   few   weeks.     I   have
joined   lots   of   clubs   and   sports   teams,   and   made   lots
of  new  friends.

I  will  always  be  proud  to  say  that  I  went  to  Bronte,
and  will  miss  everyone  there,  but  I’m  ready  for  the
challenges  of  secondary  school.    Dylan  x
