Mrs Marianne Eggleton – celebration of life

Exciting LAMDA results – a report by Mrs Green

Before the Easter holidays, the entirety of Upper School took part in their LAMDA Choral Speaking Verse & Prose
exams. LAMDA stands for 'London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts'. They offer very well-respected
qualifications in communication and performance with the aim of inspiring the next generation of confident
communicators.

In March, we celebrated the children's hard work with our annual LAMDA assembly, where parents and staff
were invited to watch the performances of each year group. At the time, we were all blown away by their
incredible display of teamwork, timing, rhythm and expression, as well as their ability to speak from memory.

I am delighted to report our results below:

Year 3 - Choral Speaking Verse & Prose Entry Level - Distinction

Year 4 - Choral Speaking Verse & Prose Grade 1 - Distinction
Year 5 - Choral Speaking Verse & Prose Grade 2 - Distinction
Year 6 - Choral Speaking Verse & Prose Grade 3 - Distinction

LAMDA exams are graded out of 100, with the boundaries as follows:

Fail = 0 - 49 Pass = 50 - 64 Merit = 65 -79 Distinction = 80 -100

Incredibly, each year group achieved a score in the high 80s - a truly exceptional achievement.

Alongside this, rather admirably, a total of 19 pupils across Year 4 - Year 6 also took part in Individual Speaking
Verse and Prose exams:

Year 4 - JJ, Isabela, Zak, Alice, Dayisi, Charlie and Udai

Year 5 - Abigail, Anand and Oscar
Year 6 - Esperanza, Savera, Saavi, Aadya, Elina, Saoirse, Suhana, Aditri and Summah

Congratulations to all these children who each received very impressive grades for their performances (2 pupils
achieved a high Merit and 17 pupils achieved a Distinction).

A huge well done to Upper School, once again you have made us all VERY proud indeed.

Irish Folklore in Year 5

This week in Year 5, Mrs Green read the children a legend from Irish folklore
called, ‘The Children of Lir’. It is set on an island that has a beautiful river
which links perfectly with Year 5’s geography topic this term (Rivers)! Here
are some photos of a drama activity they did after reading the story. Over the
next few weeks, the children will be writing their own myth set around a river.
They are very excited to get creative with heroes, monsters and magic …
watch this space!

Coding Success

We are thrilled to share some exciting news from our recent participation in the national ISA coding
competition! Seven of our talented students embarked on a journey of creativity and innovation, each
crafting their own digital projects under the expert guidance of one of our very talented parents, Mr. Munn.
Their dedication and hard paid off as child really honed their skills over the course of the project

Among the diverse array of projects, only three could be entered. This proved to be a difficult decision as
each project was wonderfully unique and each pupil had worked so hard. In the end the decision was made
and three projects were entered into this national competition, against hundreds of schools. We are
delighted to announce that:

Aditiri created an Interactive Harry Potter game, earning her a well-deserved participation certificate. Her
game was really well crafted and very polished.

Henry delivered a first-person Racing Game. Henry's project drove to victory in the 'Innovating with Motion'
category. His game delivered a unique perspective and was great fun to play.

Tarra created a Leaf Blower Simulator game. Tarra clearly impressed the judges with his original, thoughtful
and complex project. His attention to detail and user experience earned him a commendable second place
overall, showcasing his remarkable talent as a coder.

In celebration of their achievements, Mr. Munn and the seven students will host a special assembly later on
this term, providing an opportunity for the school community to witness their fantastic creations. Bronte
School would like to thank Mr. Munn for the invaluable contribution to our success in this competition and
for sharing his time, expertise and his passion for coding with us.

A Midsummer Night's Dream

Year 5 and Year 6 welcomed actors from Shakespeare4Kidz this morning for a wonderfully
entertaining and informative workshop of Shakespeare's comedy 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'.
Our visitors brought Shakespeare's comedy to life with the children themselves very much part of
the magic and mayhem.

Our Year 6 children were already excited to be putting on their own version of the play later in
the summer term but now they really can't wait!

Assembly
As usual, there was lots to celebrate in assembly this morning: Summah in Year 6 was nominated
by the Playleader of the Month. Mrs. Hine noted that she played creative and exciting games with
the younger children and that she has a really proactive and willing attitude. Well done Summah,
we are very proud of you. Shay in Year 1 was recognised as our Lunchtime Superstar, Mrs. Salter
observed him engaging in some wonderful play. Shay takes part in team games on the
playground playing fairly, taking turns, considering others (passing the ball and being inclusive).

Nidhi in Y6 showed us a wonderful trophy for being the student of the month for her dance club.
Nidhi loves to dance and is clearly doing exceptionally well.

Well done to Chloe in Year 3 who recently gained her piano Grade 1 certificate and her Grade 1 in
Tap Dancing. She gained a distinction in both exams! Chloe, we look forward to seeing you
perform soon. Jude in Year 3 took his first formal exam on the acoustic guitar and did brilliantly
well. He received a distinction in recognition of all his hard work. Aditri in Year 6 topped off a
fantastic week musically for Bronte, she passed her Grade 1 on the violin with distinction. It is
clear her hard work and commitment is paying off.

Geeva in Year 5 has impressed Mrs. Green in her English lessons, she was bestowed with a
certificate for achieving her silver writing targets. Preet in Year 2 received a shiny gold medal for
scoring a match winning penalty for her team. Preet was noted as having a strong commitment in
her matches, she is clearly a valued member of her football team.

Congratulations to Nelson for receiving the most house points this week.

Splash-tastic Science: Year 6 Pupils Make Waves with Absorption Lesson for Year 2

Elina, Rayo, Diana, and Nyah from Year 6, wanted to share the exciting news about their recent adventure
in teaching Year 2 all about absorption. They planned, organised and led the lesson in order to get evidence
for their Year 6 Leadership Accreditation. Below is an article written by the children themselves.

Last week we looked at materials and how they soak up water. We decided to share our knowledge with
Year 2. Before starting the experiment, Year 2 made some good predictions about which material would
suck up the most water.

Then came the big moment, we poured water into trays and watched as a brick, cloth, tissue, and sponge
were used to absorb the water.

We were seriously impressed with Year 2's clever questions. Then we even used some fancy words like
"hypothesis". And guess what? The best part was learning that Year 2 had really enjoyed the lesson and
learnt lots. We gave them all a sticker to say thank you for their hard work.

Can you guess which object absorbed the most water?

A busy week in Year 2……

It was ‘Toasty Tuesday’ in Year 2 this week, when the class learnt all about halves, quarters and
thirds. Children carefully cut pieces of toast into equal parts before finally eating their 'whole'
toast at the end of the lesson! Yummy!

Later in the week, during their Science lesson, Year 2 began to learn all about 'growing' and what
plants need to grow successfully. They planted tomato seeds and will be carrying out observations
to watch them grow! The children are eager for their tomatoes to grow successfully, ready for
making pizzas and sandwiches. Lots more to eat in Year 2 over the coming weeks!

Dr Burgisser zooms into Year 4

Year 4 had a very special guest join them for a zoom session. Dr Alain Burgisser, who is a
volcanologist (and also Alex’s uncle) took time out of his busy schedule to talk to the children
about his work, studying volcanoes. All the children asked him questions related to his work and
experience and were fascinated by his exciting adventures.

If you want to know more, find a Year 4 pupil and have a chat about what they have learnt. A
special thank you to Alex and his uncle for our unique experience.

Chicks in Reception

Reception Class are incubating some

chicken eggs to support learning on life
cycles, growth and change.

The eggs need to incubate for 21 days

and there are 14 more days to go before
they start to hatch!

While we wait, the children

have looked at what the
developing embryo looks like
inside the egg.

Some of the older children have been

sharing their memories of chicks in
Reception and it’s lovely to hear how
fondly they remember this experience.
