Art Exhibition – Miss Maclean

What an amazing event our Art Exhibition turned out to be! It was so lovely to see all the
children's' work displayed as a whole; a great reflection of the skills they have attained this year.
The setting was stunning, the turnout was fantastic and the children's' behaviour impeccable (as
always). I want to thank each and every one of you for your participation and support; it
wouldn't have been the same without you.

I would also like to thank Cobham Hall for the use of their Gilt Hall and to our guest judge David
Tovey, a local artist. It was a difficult decision, but awards were given to the ‘Artist of the Year’
and ‘Runner Up’ for each year group. Well one to you all.

Reception Class had fun on
their ‘Welly Walk’ to Camer Park
this week.

Earlier this term, Mrs Green entered Year 5 into a Young Writers competition. Each child was asked
to write a poem about something that interests them.

This week they received some very exciting news … ALL entries are going to be published in a
special poetry book called ‘Poetry Towers - A Treasure Trove of Rhyme’. The children were thrilled
to hear the news and Mrs Green is a very proud teacher indeed. Well done Year 5.

Writing and Recording in Year 3

It's that time of year once again when the Mr Men
and Little Misses appear in the Year 3 classroom. The
children have thoroughly immersed themselves in
these much-loved classic stories written by Roger
and Adam Hargreaves.
Not only are the stories popular, but they follow a well-structured pattern - perfect for the
elements of Year 3 writing. The children have been busy authors over the past few weeks
producing their own original narratives.

This year, we have invented new characters: Mr Fraction and Little Miss Fraction.

Here is an excerpt from Idris's story:

Mr. Fraction
By Idris Hargreaves

Far, far, far away on the other side of the world there is a land, a beautiful land called
Fractionland. There are fractions everywhere! As you might very well expect, everyone
who lives in Fractionland is very intelligent indeed.

Now, there happened to be someone called Mr. Fraction. Mr. Fraction was a jolly fellow,
but he never felt 100% happy because he felt that a piece of him was missing. He lived in
a semi-circle house beside a lake and near a half-grown forest in the countryside.

Year 3 were given an amazing opportunity by Mr Luckhurst (Orla and Ethan's daddy) to
record their individual stories at his studio in Gravesend: Voice Talent Online.

The children took on the roles of director, sound engineer and story recorder which they
thoroughly enjoyed.

"I loved being a director!"

"That was the most awesome thing I've ever done!'
"I want to do that all over again!” ….... were some of the comments made.

Mr Luckhurst will add some technical finishing touches and each child will receive their
own exclusive audio story to keep forever.

On behalf of Mrs Durkin and Year 3, we would like to thank Mr Luckhurst for this incredible
experience.

Well done to all our mathleths who have been working hard this week. We had a number of silver
awards to applaud and two gold certificates! Arjun and Lila in Year 2 should be congratulated for their
excellent efforts! Idera in Year 1 proudly showed us her two medals for dancing and her superstar
certificate. Congratulations Idera, it sounds like you had a most successful weekend! Arjun in Year 2
has done brilliantly in his most recent swimming lessons and he proudly showed us his Achievement
Award from Swim England for his excellent jumping in.

I was delighted to award not one, not two but three Headmistress’ Commendations! Miss Dhillion asked
for Ini in Year 2 to be nominated for her commitment in developing her writing skills. Ini plans her written
work in detail and applies key vocabulary, spelling and punctuation. Darcey in Year 2 was also
nominated by Miss Dhillion for challenging herself in every lesson, especially the hard work she has put
into developing her handwriting. In Year 4, Millen was commended for being a ‘ray of sunshine’ and for
her ‘kind, caring and nurturing nature’. Mrs Sutherland, our Catering Manager, gave her nomination
after witnessing Millen's outstanding care of others every single day.

Mrs Singh proudly awarded two pen licenses today. Well done to Jotham and Suhaavi in Year 4, their
commitment and determination will stand them both in good stead for Year 5.
