Year 6 Year 7
All at Bronte have been delighted to hear how well our leavers have
settled into their new schools. We are so proud of their achievements
and the positive attitudes they have taken with them as they embark
on the next steps in their education journey. Don’t they all look very
grown up!

Rainbow Maths in Year 2!

Year 2 had a colourful maths lesson this week all about COUNTING!

The children organised their skittles and counted in 1s 2s 3s 5s and 10s! They soon
realised that organising in rows and columns supported their accuracy. Miss Dhillon
was pleased to hear the children using lots of mathematical language such as tens,
ones, array, altogether, groups, more and total!

There may or may not have been some sneaky sweet eating during the lesson!!!!
Please meet our Kindergarten children. Page 4
We are delighted to welcome you and your
families to Bronte School.

All children from Year 2 to Year 6 have completed their InCAS assessments over the last few
weeks, which provide invaluable data to help us support each child at a very individual level.
The tests are computer adaptive and give scores across a range of different core areas,
including reading, spelling, mathematics, mental arithmetic and developed ability. All results
are shared with parents and will be discussed at our upcoming ‘October Meetings’.

Well done children, you concentrated well and worked very hard indeed.

The New and Improved Mathletics

Mrs Durkin is pleased to announce that the new-style Mathletics is a huge hit! 164 bronze
certificates have been achieved so far this term across the school. The following children have
been working incredibly hard practising their maths skills and are managing to score at least 1000
points each week.
Year 3 are the class winners this
Callie (Year 2)
week, with 11 certificates.
Idera (Year 2)
Cattleya (Year 3) Well done!
Chloe (Year 3) (But it was very close as Y2 and Y5 both
had 10 certificates each!)
JJ (Year 4)

They have earned 5 bronze certificates already and are now on their way to the next level which is
silver. Will one of them become our first ever Bronte Legend?
Wir lernen Deutsch!
Year 3 have thrown themselves into
learning German with great
enthusiasm. They have been learning
songs, greetings and how to say their
name (and they’re only a couple of
lessons in). Mrs DaCosta is very
impressed - keep up the great work
Year 3, wunderbar!

Match Report by Mr J

On Thursday six of our students took part in the first of a series of sports tournaments against 3 local
schools; Gads Hill, Ethelbert Road and St Andrews.

The first tournament was in Futsal (a 5-a-side, indoor version of football, played with a weighted ball to
enhance skill and ball control). After six games we played Ethelbert Road in the 3rd place play off and
won on penalties, with Arran brilliantly saving our opponents penalty after Luke had scored for us!
Some brilliant performances and wonderful goals scored. Luke was player of the tournament, attracting
praise from not just teachers but his opponents as well.

Congratulations to St Andrews who won

the tournament, but a huge well done to
our team, who had five Year 5 players
whilst all other players at the tournament
were year 6!

Well done Luke, Jack, Oscar, Arran,

Henry & Anand, I’m very proud of
your performances and sportsmanship.
Celebration Assembly
Congratulations to James in Year 2 - he was delighted to share with us all his level one award
in gym skills awarded by Meapa. Zak was recognised during Assembly for his endeavors in
Year 4 and was awarded his pen licence, a very fine achievement so early in the academic
year. Preston is included below for his achievement in last week’s Celebration Assembly, when
he was presented with his Level 3 certificate from Swim England.

Also in today’s Assembly, Rohan in Year 1 and Ndedeba in Year 3 were awarded certificates in
French and German to mark their enthusiasm, effort and excellent speaking in class.

Ravi in Year 1, Kayla in Year 2 and Yuvraj in Year 4 were bestowed certificates in PE lessons
in recognition of their dedication and hardwork. The children displayed important skills including
teamwork and setting a great example to others.

Congratulations were forthcoming for both Elina and Saoirse (Y6’s) for passing their Grade II
violin grading with DISTINCTIONS!

After a close fought race, Nelson received the most house points this week. Well done to all of
the pupils for their hard work inside and outside the classroom.
Congratulations to all of the Year 6 pupils who have been awarded
important positions this week. Our new Maths Ambassadors will be working
closely with Mrs Durkin to promote maths around the school and spread the
message that we are all indeed mathematicians. Mrs Singh appointed an
incredible six Digital Leaders this year who will do a whole plethora of jobs
around Bronte, including leading assemblies and running a computing club.
Mrs Green has also announced this year's Reading Gurus. They will be
tasked with building a love of books in school as well working closely with
the younger children in order to foster a passion for reading.

These positions are not given lightly, each child needed to write a formal
letter of application and then they were interviewed. Bronte School looks
forward to working closely with the team over the upcoming academic year.

Bronte School would like to thank everyone for taking part in our annual
‘Jeans for Genes Day’. This special event raises awareness of the daily
challenges faced by those living with a genetic condition and raises money to
fund projects that make a tangible difference to the lives of those affected.
Importantly it shines a light on the organisations that work tirelessly to
improve the lives of affected individuals and celebrates the achievements of
those living with a genetic condition. Members of our Year 6 team came in
early to collect your donations and count up afterwards, incredibly we raised
£271.97! We would like to thank you for your wonderful donations to a
worthy cause.
