Art Success!
As we come to the end of another busy week at Bronte School, we have so
much to celebrate! Huge congratulations go to the winners of the ISA Art
Competition 2019/20, where this year we secured 6 awards! Abigail (Year 2)
gained a 1st place in Key Stage 1 for her drawing and Jaiveer (Year 5) won 2nd
place for his 2D art in the Key Stage 2 category.

These children were also ‘Highly Commended’ for their entries in 2D Art: Elina
(Year 3), Floyd (Year 4), Matthew (Year 4) and Daniel (Year 4) for his work in
textiles.

The standard of work is extremely high at this annual event, so we are

delighted with these excellent results. Well done to all the pupils who had work
entered and our thanks also go to Mrs Britton. We are very proud of you.

The determination and motivation of

Bronte children to progress with
their Mathletics continues to give us
cause for celebration. This week,
many were congratulated for
achieving silver and gold awards
during their bubble assemblies. In
the Upper School, Rajvir (Year 5),
Alice and Mojoyin (both Year 6) were
gold certificate winners.

During the Year 1 and 2 assembly last week, Sebastian, Dayisi (both Year 1) and
Geeva (Year 2) were congratulated upon achieving their Mathletics gold
certificates. What a lovely surprise during our special pyjama day assembly!

Pen Licence news…

Our congratulations go to Aashikaa
(Year 4) who gained her Pen Licence
last week. She proudly received her
certificate to encouraging applause
from her class, some of whom were still
working towards this Year 4 milestone.

This week, two more of her class

followed her example! This class
are working very hard on their
presentation, resulting in Janai
and Hugo being awarded their
licences too. Very well done to
them all.

It is always good to hear about what children get up to

outside of school and one achievement was
celebrated during the Year 3 /4 Assembly. Nidhi (Year
3) shared her certificate for participating in an online
dance event along with some of her friends, which she
says brought entertainment and joy to a lot of
families. Well done Nidhi – keep dancing!

Last week’s newsletter was filled with pictures of

the classes enjoying their pyjama day in support of
BBC Children in Need.

The resources for this year’s appeal were targeted

towards the theme of wellbeing and the key phrase
‘Five to thrive’. This included taking part in regular
exercise and thinking about why we felt positive
afterwards. Year 6 made the most of some fitness
work on the playground during the week, discussing
the benefits of fresh air and exercise to their mental
health.

At the other end of the school, Kindergarten have

been learning about 2D shapes and their properties.
The children had to name, find and match different
shapes this week. Can you spot any shapes that you
recognise or name any of their properties?

This week Year 1 had a very special visit from 'Bob the man on the moon'
(Sebby!) who visited them during their English lesson. Year 1 played 'hot seat'
where they were able to ask Bob questions about life in Space.
'Are there any aliens on the moon?'
' Can you do cartwheels and flips on the moon?'
' Do you have to clean the moon?'

Bob also mentioned how he prepares for work in the morning. He likes to read
the newspaper and buy two chocolate toffees from the shop on his way to the
rocket launch pad!

Children then created a textured painting of the moon using white flour,
cardboard and paint. They used bottle caps to create craters on the moon and
finished their design with some golden stars. Fantastic work Year 1!

It has been a rather busy few days with all children working very hard. Because it
was Assessment Week this week, Year 5 enjoyed some Wellbeing Homework. Here
are some lovely pictures of what they got up to…
