Learning about Jose Rizal and his life within the context of 19th century Philippines was
truly flabbergasting for me. It was mind-opening to know the struggles and challenges that Rizal
faced as he fought for the rights and freedoms of his fellow Filipinos. The importance of the Jose
Rizal Subject is clear, as it helps us understand the history of our country and the sacrifices that
were made for its future.

Understanding the influences and circumstances in Rizal’s childhood that helped form his
values was also a key part of my learning journey. It was fascinating to know how his family,
education, and experiences all shaped the man he became and the beliefs he held. This helped me
understand Rizal’s character, beliefs, and philosophy on a deeper level, as I knew how they were
influenced by his formal education and reflected in his early works and writings.

Finally, analyzing Rizal’s various works, particularly the novels Noli Me Tangere and El
Filibusterismo, was a great way to delve deeper into his ideas and their significance in the
present time. Organizing his ideas into themes allowed me to see the overarching messages and
values that he was trying to convey. I also enjoyed learning about his unique way of viewing and
learning from life experiences, such as his travels, and how these experiences shaped his views
and values. Overall, learning about Jose Rizal has been a truly flabbergasting experience, and I
feel grateful to have had the opportunity to delve deeper into his life, works, and impact on
Philippine history.

In summary, after studying the subject course I have
three points to say:
1. That the course subject emphasizes the importance
of national pride and the role of education in
fostering it.
2. That the course highlights the power of literature

3. And that the course underscores the importance of
self-sacrifice and dedication to one's beliefs.
 “The importance of national pride and the role of education in fostering it”

One of the main things I learned from the Jose Rizal course was the importance of
national pride and the role of education in fostering it. Through studying Rizal's life and writings,
I came to understand how crucial it is to have a strong sense of identity and connection to one's
country in order to work towards its betterment. This learning has value not only for myself, but
for all Filipinos, as it can inspire us to strive for a better Philippines and appreciate our heritage.

Rizal, being a national hero of the Philippines, is an embodiment of nationalism pride. He

wrote books and made speeches that were used as a tool to call Filipinos to action, with the goal
of promoting unity and national pride. His two famous novels, Noli Me Tangere and El
Filibusterismo, were used to expose the injustices committed by the Spanish colonizers and to
unite Filipinos in the struggle against colonialism.

Additionally, Rizal recognized the importance of education as a means of fostering

national pride. In his writings, he called for Filipinos to be educated in their own language,
history, and culture in order to develop a stronger sense of national identity. He believed that
through education, Filipinos could appreciate and understand their own country and culture, and
thus be more capable of working towards its betterment. As he stated in his famous essay "The
Indolence of the Filipinos," "Without education, the people are but cattle in the field."(Rizal,
1896).

Furthermore, the role of education in fostering national pride is not limited to the
Philippines. According to historians, it is widely accepted that education is one of the most
effective tools for fostering a sense of national identity. From the American Revolution to the
Civil Rights Movement, education has been a key driver in shaping national identity and
promoting national pride. As noted by historian David Armitage, “Education is the most
powerful means of forming the national character and of instilling the principles of national
unity.” (Armitage, 2015).
 In conclusion, my learnings from the Jose Rizal course has shown me the importance of
national pride and the role of education in fostering it. Through the study of Rizal's life and
writings, I came to understand the crucial role of education in shaping a strong sense of national
identity and promoting national pride. This learning has value not only for myself, but for all

Filipinos, as it can inspire us to strive for a better Philippines and appreciate our heritage.

“The power of literature and writing as a tool for social and political change”

Another important takeaway from the course on Jose Rizal was the understanding of the
power of literature and writing as a tool for social and political change. Through studying Rizal's
novels and essays, it became clear that literature can be a powerful tool for inspiring change and
promoting national identity.

Rizal's novels, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, were not just works of fiction, but
also powerful calls to action for Filipinos to take charge of their own destiny and strive for
independence. These novels exposed the injustices and corruption that existed within the
Philippines during Rizal's time, and served as a catalyst for the Philippine Revolution (Garcia,
2014). By using literature as a means of raising awareness about the state of the country and its
problems, Rizal was able to inspire his fellow Filipinos to take action and fight for their rights.

Rizal's essays, such as "The Philippines a Century Hence" and "Letter to the Young
Women of Malolos", also served as a tool for political and social change. These essays were
written in response to the Spanish government's decision to annex the Philippines in 1898, and
argued for the importance of Philippine independence and the need for Filipinos to take charge
of their own future (Garcia, 2014). Rizal's essays were widely read and discussed among
Filipinos, further fueling the push for independence.

Furthermore, Rizal's writings also played a crucial role in the formation of a national
identity among Filipinos. Through his novels and essays, Rizal was able to promote a sense of
shared history and culture among Filipinos and highlight the importance of national pride and
unity (Garcia, 2014). This helped to foster a sense of belonging among Filipinos and contributed
to the development of a strong sense of national identity.

In conclusion, through studying the works of Jose Rizal, it became clear that literature

“The importance of self-sacrifice and dedication to one's beliefs”

The Jose Rizal course taught me the importance of self-sacrifice and dedication to one's
beliefs. Throughout the course, I learned about the life and works of Jose Rizal, the national hero
of the Philippines, and was deeply moved by his unwavering commitment to the freedom of his
people. Rizal's willingness to give up his own life for the sake of others serves as a powerful
example of the importance of self-sacrifice and dedication to one's beliefs.

One of the key takeaways from the course was Rizal's belief in the power of education to
shape society and inspire change. He believed that through education, Filipinos could learn to
love their country and work towards its betterment. In his novel "Noli Me Tangere", he wrote,
"He who does not know how to look back at where he came from will never get to his
destination" (Rizal, 1887). This quote highlights the importance of understanding one's past and
heritage in order to work towards a better future.

Additionally, the course delved into the political climate of the Philippines during Rizal's
time, where the Spanish government had a strong hold on power and oppressed the Filipinos.
Rizal's writings were not only works of fiction, but also powerful calls to action for Filipinos to
take charge of their own destiny and strive for independence. In his famous essay "The
Philippines a Century Hence", he wrote, "We Filipinos must free ourselves from the slavery in
which we find ourselves, and which will end only when we cease to be Filipinos" (Rizal, 1889).
This statement illustrates Rizal's belief in the importance of self-determination and the
willingness to sacrifice one's own comfort for the freedom of one's people.

Lastly, Rizal's ultimate sacrifice of his life for his beliefs serves as a powerful reminder
of the importance of standing up for what one believes in, even if it comes at a cost. He knew
that his actions would have consequences, and yet he persisted in his efforts to inspire change
and fight for freedom. In conclusion, the Jose Rizal course taught me the importance of self-
sacrifice and dedication to one's beliefs through the life and works of Jose Rizal. The course has
enhanced my appreciation for the discipline of history and the role it plays in shaping society and
inspiring change.

THE AMAZING PART

One of the most surprising and amazing things I learned from studying the Jose Rizal
subject was the complexity of Rizal’s character and his multifaceted approach to advocating for
reform in the Philippines. Prior to this course, I had a very narrow view of Rizal as simply a
national hero and revolutionary figure. However, through my studies, I learned about the various
influences and circumstances in Rizal’s childhood that helped shape his values and beliefs and
many more.

I was particularly struck by the role that Rizal’s formal education played in the
development of his character and philosophy. Through his studies in Europe, Rizal was exposed
to a wide range of ideas and perspectives that helped him to see the world in a different way.
This is reflected in his early works and writings, which demonstrate a deep understanding of the
social and political issues facing the Philippines at the time.

Another aspect of Rizal’s character that I found particularly fascinating was his love life.
I was surprised to learn about the various romantic relationships that Rizal had throughout his
life, and how these relationships influenced his views on love, relationships, and marriage. I also
appreciated the opportunity to evaluate Rizal’s character in terms of his interactions with women
and his overall attitude towards relationships.

Overall, my studies of the Jose Rizal subject have given me a much deeper understanding
and appreciation of Rizal as a person and a national hero. I have learned about his unique
approach to advocating for reform, and the many complex and multifaceted aspects of his
character and beliefs. I am grateful for the opportunity to have studied this subject and to have
gained such a rich and valuable learning experience.

MY GREATEST ACHEVEMENT

One of the greatest achievements I made during my study of the Jose Rizal course subject
was gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation of Rizal's life and contributions to
Philippine history. Through this course, I learned about the various influences and circumstances
in Rizal's childhood that helped shape his values and beliefs, as well as the development of his
character and philosophy as reflected in his early works and writings.

One of the most impactful aspects of the course was analyzing Rizal's novels, Noli Me
Tangere and El Filibusterismo, and examining the themes and ideas present in these works. This
allowed me to better understand Rizal's perspective on the social and political issues facing the
Philippines during the 19th century, and how these issues continue to be relevant today.

Another accomplishment I made during the course was evaluating the significance of
Rizal's ideas in the present time. Through this process, I identified and proposed unique
characteristics of Rizal's way of viewing and learning from life experiences that are worthy of
emulation, as well as his moral and intellectual legacies that should be embraced and practiced
by the Filipino youth.
 Overall, my study of the Jose Rizal course subject has been a highly rewarding and
enriching experience. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn more about this important figure
in Philippine history and his contributions to the country's development.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, the Jose Rizal course has been an enlightening and meaningful experience
for me as a student. Through studying the life and writings of Jose Rizal, I have come to
understand the importance of national pride and the role of education in fostering it. The course
