As a Native American, colonization means a drastic change in various aspects in life, which range

from culture, politics, to health. For instance, when the Europeans settlers arrived, not only were
we forcibly put through new laws and change in lifestyle, but also unknown diseases were
transmitted to us, tremendously decreasing our population. Also, we were forced to convert
into Christians, which led to the loss of our own morality, religious belief and lifestyle.

As an European settler, we marched to the West with determination with the aim of different
purposes, from improving life quality, finding new jobs to fleeing the laws. However, we all have
a purpose in common, which was to pursuit The American Dream, to look for freedom, equality
and democracy, and spread our ideology to the Natives to further and more successfully
develop our Dream.

From my point of view, there ought to be respect towards the existing religions and cultures,
despite the determination to spread one’s ideology. Because, according to the background
situation, history, religion, lifestyle, etc. shared within a community, an unique mindset of theirs
is developed, which may well differ from another ethnical community. Therefore, cultures should
co-exist in peace and respect.
