In order to obtain a good condition of the engine room all vessels must have this General

arrangement plan for both the Deck and engine room. But today we will be focusing on the

Engine room, basically, this arrangement plan must be investigated from the very beginning of

any design. As we checked every part of the engine room we need to pay attention to ventilation,

Transport ways, escapes, Maintenance, hatch, and other space for maintenance, etc.

The accommodation is usually arranged above the engine room, of course, all of them

must be very well coordinated to that we can easily create a logical solution. The contract design

part must have this detailed engine room arrangement with the index of machinery and

equipment.

When making or planning of building anything it must have a “planned” or in our houses

called “Blueprint” which is a layout to make a development of the concept so that we can

allocate proper spaces according to the arrangement of the owner and as per “requirement”.

Since vessel has different types and special designs there is no concrete rule on making an

arrangement plan so, in order to have a successful Arrangement plan we must know the basic

procedure to follow in order to come down to an optimum design.

We all know that the engine room is the heart and muscle of the vessel as it provides

power, energy, and essential “Fluids” for all the vessel. These engine room must have the

following;

1. propulsion system

a. main engine(s) or turbine(s)

b. gear(s)

c. shaft line(s)

c. propeller(s)

d. CPP system

2. power generation system
