September 9, 20tll Dear Robert Gordon School Families, My intent over the course of the next few weeks is to keep you informed about the plans and progress to restore the basement of Robert Gordon School. Testing results from a certified mold specialist (Mr. Mold, Parlin, NJ) show elevated levels of mold in areas of the basement of the school. This report will be available on the school website by Tuesday of next week. The areas of the basement affected by water damage will not be used by students until remediation is complete and further testing shows the issue has been resolved. Work will begin Tuesday after school hours to remove all affected flooring, sheetrock, supplies, and furniture from the buildmg. Physical removal of affected materials from the building and disinfectant treatments will be performed after school hours when students are not in the building. I anticipate the cleaning process to take approximately two weeks. Student bathrooms located in the basement have been inspected and are saf~ for use by students at this time. Using the bathroom is the ONLY reason any student would be in the basement of the school. The areas of the basement where work will be done will be sealed off so that students may continue to access the bathrooms throughout this process. If you would prefer for your child not to use the basement bathrooms, alternate arrangements can be made for your child to utilize bathrooms on the :first or second floor of the school, by request. Please email me directly (jsalvo@rpsd.org) or call the main office to make alternate bathroom arrangements for your child. As a result of the .remediation plan described above, all students will be eating lunch in the Middle School for the next 2-3 weeks according to the following schedule:
1st and 2ad Grade: Lunch Recess-l0:57 -11:18 AM

Lunch-l1:18 - 11:47 AM Lunch-ll:42 AM - 12:08 PM

3rd, 4ti1, Stil Grade: Lunch Recess-I 1:18 - 11:42 AM

A new lunch menu for the remainder of the week will be sent home as soon as possible.
An update will be provided on the progress of the remediation on Thursday, September 15 th at our first PTA meeting, which will be held in the Robert Gordon School Computer Lab at 7:30 PM.

As challenging as this situation has made the start of this school year, your children have been incredible throughout all of the changes and alternate plans in place. It has been remarkable how smoothly this week has been considering the circumstances! I am so appreciative of how the wonderful staff and students of Robert Gordon have come together as a school community to make the most of this adverse situation.
