Dear District 227 Families,

This letter is to inform you that two or more individuals at Rich Township High
School have tested positive for COVID-19. We are coordinating our efforts with
the Cook County Health Department to promptly identify and monitor individuals
who have had close contact with the COVID-19 positive individual(s) to prevent
further spread within our school and community. Close contact is any unmasked
person who was within three feet of a COVID-positive individual for 15 minutes
or longer. Because we have protocols already in place we were able to identify
those in close contact of a COVID-positive individual.

Based on guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education(ISBE), the Illinois
Department of Health (IDPH), and our local health department, Rich Township
High School District 227 has decided to suspend in-person instruction and all
activities from Friday, October 1 to Thursday, October 14, 2021.

To prepare for remote learning, Friday, October 1, 2021 will be considered an

emergency school closure day. The district will implement synchronous remote
learning during the quarantine period effective Monday, October 4, 2021. We will
return to full in-person instruction Monday, October 18, 2021. We recognize that
the quarantine should end on Friday, October 15, 2021, however due to Parent
Teacher Conferences, this day is a non-attendance day for our students. Staff will
return Friday, October 15, 2021.

In the Remote Learning Model, teachers and students will engage in synchronous
instruction 100% remotely using their district-issued device. No student will be
allowed in the building after Friday, Oct 1, 2021

Teachers will:
● Review instructions for joining class and submitting assignments.
● Record attendance in PowerSchool.
● Update the gradebook in PowerSchool Friday of each week

Students will:
● Follow and attend all classes on their schedule including advisory,
academic lab and study hall. Please make sure to take all necessary
materials home.

they need additional assistance.

assignments
● Students who need to pick up their Chromebooks or other materials will be
allowed to do so on Friday, October 1, 2021. Transportation will not be
provided. If you are unable to retrieve your materials please contact your
Associate Principals - Carl Scott (cscott@rich227.org) or Linnea Garrett
(lgarrett@rich227.org).
● Students who have never been issued a Chromebook should report to the
STEM Campus (3600 West 203rd Street, Olympia Fields, IL 60461) at
Door #5 on Friday, October 1, 2021 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. or from 1-3
p.m. and they MUST have their student ID to be issued a device.

Attendance:
● Students who do not join the class during the scheduled time will be
marked absent.
● If a student has not engaged in instruction for 4 days, a warning notice will
be sent.
● If a student has not engaged in instruction for 10 days, they will be
considered truant and dropped from the course.
● Campuses will follow other interventions and notices as outlined in the
Student Handbook before a student is dropped.

More information regarding state testing and parent teacher conferences will be
shared at a later date.

As always, everyone should monitor their health and stay at home if they develop
symptoms. Sick persons should contact their health care provider to determine if
testing is needed. Anyone who develops severe symptoms should seek medical
care immediately. If your child has had close contact with a known case or
suspected case of COVID-19, keep your child at home and notify your primary
healthcare provider and your child’s school.

We are committed to providing your child and our staff with a safe and healthy
environment. Thank you for your understanding and ongoing cooperation with our
COVID-19 prevention procedures as we work to help protect your children, your
families, and our staff and their families.

Respectfully,
Dr. Johnnie Thomas
Superintendent
