CONTEXTUALIZATION

In this picture we can see many different things.

Name two similarities and two differences. Explain

THEORETICAL BASIS

Living things are people animals and plants. That means they are alive and have specific
characteristics that make them special. They need food, water, air and space to live. If one of these
is not present it may die. Other characteristics are that living things grow, change and reproduce.
Living things like animals need shelter that means that they need a place to live.

There are seven processes that all living things need to carry out:

1. Movement: the ability to move from one place to another

2. Reproduction: to produce more organisms of the same specie

3. Sensitivity: the ability to respond to the outer environment

4. Grow: to increase in size, develop, and change

5. Respiration: getting energy from eating and breathing

6. Excretion: getting rid of waste

7. Nutrition: getting food to stay alive

LIVING THINGS

Nonliving things do not need food, water or air. Also they cannot move. Nonliving things do not
grow, change or reproduce. Also do not fell or breathe. Other things can be not living now but were
living before like wood. The wood comes from a tree that was living. Some nonliving things are
water, air, rocks and clouds.

NON LIVING THINGS

ANIMALS AND PLANTS

Plants are living things, like animals. Plants are also different from animals.

Plants cannot move like animals. They stay in one place. Green plants use light, water, and air to
make their own food. Animals eat plants or other animals.

Plants and animals are both alive. While they share that trait, or characteristic, plants and animals
are divided into different groups: the Animal Kingdom and the Plant Kingdom. Members of the
Animal Kingdom can move around freely and find their own food. Members of the Plant Kingdom
do not move around and do make their own food.

Plants and animals both reproduce. Animals either have babies or lay eggs from which babies
hatch. One way plants reproduce is by shedding seeds, which are then distributed via the wind and
in animal excrement.

Both plants and animals take in from the air and give back out to the air. Animals that live on land
breathe in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. Plants take in carbon dioxide and let back out
oxygen. That is why it is good to be around plants.

Plants and animals are both kingdoms of living things, but as we see they differ in important
aspects. Let´s look at the chart below to see what some of these differences are.
