ANSWER ALL THE QUESTIONS CLEARLY SHOWING ALL THE NECESSARY STEPS

QUESTION 1: (CLO 4 - 9 Marks)

Bawazir Sports Products wants to determine the number of All-Pro (A) and College (C) foot-
balls to produce in order to maximize profit over the next four-week planning horizon.
Constraints affecting the production quantities are production capacities in three departments:
cutting and dyeing; sewing; and inspection and packaging. For the four week planning period,
340 hours of cutting and dyeing time, 420 hours of sewing time, and 200 hours of inspection and
packaging time are available. All-Pro footballs provide a profit of AED 5 per unit and College
footballs provide a profit of AED 4 per unit. The linear programming model with production
times expressed in minutes is as follows:

Maximize Profit =5 A +4 C
Subject to
12A +6 C≤20 , 400 Cutting and dyeing
9 A+15 C≤25 , 200 Sewing
6 A+6 C≤12 , 000 Inspection and packaging
A,C ≥0

(a) Graph the linear program and show the feasible region. (4 Marks)

Draw accurately on a graph paper (you can buy it or check free one from the internet).

(b) Determine the optimal solution. (3 Marks)

(c) Suppose that the values of the objective function coefficients are AED 4 for each All-Pro
model produced and AED 5 for each College model. Determine if the new optimal
solutions change. (You must show your work on). (2 Marks)

QUESTION 2: (CLO 5 - 9 Marks)

The distribution system for the Herman Company consists of three plants, two
warehouses, and four customers. Plant capacities and shipping costs per unit (in
Dirhams) from each plant to each warehouse are as follows:

WAREHOUSES
PLANT 1 2 CAPACITY

1 5 7 550
2 7 8 700
3 8 6 480

Customer demand and shipping costs per unit (in Dirhams) from each warehouse to each
customer are:

CUSTOMER
1

WAREHOUSE 1 2 3 4
1 6 5 8 6
2 4 8 7 8
DEMAND 400 350 300 500

(a) Develop a network representation of this problem. (2 Marks)

(b) Formulate a linear programming model of the problem. (2 Marks)

Now suppose that shipments between warehouse 1 and warehouse 2 are permitted (both
ways) at 2 Dirhams per unit and that direct shipments can be made from plant 3 to
customer 4 at a cost of 7 Dirhams per unit.

(c) Develop a network representation of this problem. (2 Marks)

[You don’t have to draw a new network representation - You can just make
additions to the network drawn in (a) above if possible using a different ink].

(d) Now formulate a linear programming model for the problem with the added
information.
