Response to Student’s Post

The post talks about the impacts of doula support on maternal and infant mortality in the

African American community. Due to the steadily increasing maternal mortality with significant

ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic disparities in birth results, the government has emphasized the

doulas' services to ensure women's safety from discriminated individuals. Moreover, doula

support helps improve women's birth experience, psychology, and physical. Additionally, it

positively impacts the entire family's well-being since there will be a peace of mind. According

to Wink et al. (2019), doula support plays a significant role the Black women. For instance, it

effectively encourages maternal health results and prevents mortality. For better services, doulas

should be equipped with the aptitude to ask queries and provide direction in an open-minded

manner. They should also have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, which will

help them build good relationships with the individuals in need of their services. One of the

strategies to improve the doula services is to offer them better professional training, which will

equip them with the necessary skills to deliver the best services to women. Another strategy is

creating awareness the African American women on the importance of doula. Thus, many

women will seek their services whenever they need their services.
