Cells - The basic unit of life that can perform all life-related

activities.

Cell - From the word “cellulae” which means “small room.”

Unicellular - Organisms that have only 1 cell.

- Bacterias
- Protist
- Amoeba
Multicellular - Organisms that have more than 1 cell
- Human
- Animal
- Plants

Three basic parts that animal and plant cell shares:

- Nucleus
- Cell membrane
- Cytoplasm

Parts and function of the parts that can be both found in

the animal and plant cell :

Nucleus
- Contains the DNA
- The brain of the cell
- Controls all the activities occurring inside the cell.
Cell membrane
- AKA as the plasma membrane
- Controls all the kind of substance that enters and
exits the cell.

Cytoplasm
- A jelly-like substance
- Contains the organelles of the cell.

Organelles
- Specialized parts of the cell that performs specific
functions.

Mitochondrion
- The powerhouse of the cell
- Releases the energy needed for cell activities.

Ribosomes
- Protein factories of the cell
- Tiny dots
- Carry out the instructions coming from the nucleus to
synthesize the proteins.

Nucleolus
- It is where the ribosomes are produced.
2 types of Endoplasmic reticulum:
- Smooth endoplasmic reticulum
- Rough endoplasmic reticulum ( Has ribosomes / tiny
dots)

Rough Endoplasmic reticulum

- Presence of ribosomes
- Involves in the production of various proteins,
antibodies, and insulin, as well as the transportation
of proteins to the smooth ER.

Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum

- No ribosomes
- Involves in the synthesis of lipids and carbohydrates
that are used to build the cell membrane.

Golgi body / Apparatus

- Mailman of the cell
- Responsible for transporting, modifying, and
packaging proteins and lipids for delivery.

Vacuole
- Storage rooms of the cell
- The main function is for the storage of food, water,
and even waste.
Lysosomes
- Suicide bag of the cell
- Acts as the waste disposal system of the cell.
- Breaks down unneeded materials in the cytoplasm.

Centrioles
- Can only be found in the animal cell
- Important for animal cells because it enables the
organisms to produce new cells.

Parts that can be only found in the plant cell:

Chloroplast
- Contain the pigment chlorophyll that captures
energy from sunlight for photosynthesis.
- The site of photosynthesis

Cell wall
- Outer covering
