emphasizes a sense of community and reciprocal admiration by referring to the shared identity,
interconnectedness, and intrinsic value of individuals. The basis of Filipino culture is solid, and it
is tied to other important Filipino values. It is possible to observe several manifestations of
kapwa and its connected principles. The value placed on appreciating and respecting the
wisdom and life lessons of others can be seen in the act of displaying reverence to elder people
and those in positions of power. The idea of "bayanihan" also highlights united efforts for the
advancement of society while showcasing the spirit of kapwa through intercommunal
cooperation and unity. In addition, the idea of "hiya" (a sense of shame) which has an impact on
conduct, encouraging individuals to display modesty, humbleness, and consideration towards
others’ emotions. Finally, the focus on “pakikisama” cultivates amicable connections, urging
people to uphold a sense of fellowship, comprehensiveness, and compassion. In general, the
exxpressions of kapwa and associated principles showcase the profound focus on society,
interdependence, and regard for others within Filipino customs.
A. Values

Filipinos value our shared humanity and interconnectedness. Because we are all a part of a
community, it promotes respect, empathy, and equality. Additionally, Indigenous people
demonstrate a commitment to assist one another when in need, fostering togetherness and
shared responsibility. "Pakikisama" is a well-known Filipino value that IPs also uphold in
order to foster societal harmony and collaboration. It promotes diversity, empathetic
communication, and constructive neighborhood interactions.

B. Manifestations:

Native Americans look to their elders for guidance and wisdom. For decisions, they consult
with them. The same is true with Filipinos; they value family and form close bonds. They
place a high value on family, living in homes with many generations and holding frequent
family get-togethers. By contributing to both indigenous and non-indigenous communities,
Filipinos demonstrate bayanihan. This includes offering assistance with farming, building, or
disaster relief. Filipinos are renowned for their warmth.
