A hotel is an establishment that delivers lodging, meals, and other facilities and amenities to
travelers and tourists. The word “hotel” is derived from French. Its primal meaning was to host.
Originally, hotel referred to a French version of a townhouse seeing frequent visitors.
Modern hotels offer a wide range of facilities to guests, including comfortable rooms with en-suite
bathrooms, air conditioning, Internet access and a television. There is also a variety of entertainment
for adults and children to yield to temptation and to occupy themselves for hours. Large hotels can
have conference and social function services. They also have restaurants, bars, gyms, spas and
swimming pools.
Due to the enormous increase in tourism, worldwide standards have improved considerably. For the
sake of greater comparability, rating systems have been introduced. Hotels are often rated based on
their quality, amenities, and services. The rating systems may vary depending on the country or
region, but some of the popular ones include the crown rating system.
Whether you’re traveling for business or leisure, or a combination of the two, hotel classification
information can help you make the best hotel choice. I will talk about 4 of them.
The first option is Luxury and High-End Hotels. In the four- and five-star range, these hotels have
higher price tags and deliver design, quality, spaciousness and excellent services with attention to
detail. Guests have full services, including 24-hour room service, amenities such as spas, a
concierge or even a butler.
The second one is inns. Inns are usually much smaller than a standard hotel. Often individually or
family-owned, inns tend to offer a cozy, homey feel for their guests. Typically offering fewer in-
room amenities than a larger hotel chain, you may find in-room coffee, Wi-Fi, or small breakfast
options available at an inn. Sometimes, smaller, privatelyowned inns call themseleves the bed and
breakfast (“BnBs”).
Boutique hotels tend to be smaller, but they can draw your attention to their unique decor,
sometimes historical. Each room may be decorated individually. They come in most price ranges,
generally starting at mid-range and going all the way up to luxury.
Transit hotels, also called airport hotels, appeal to travelers with a flight to catch. Transit hotels are
located inside of an airport, typically close to a terminal and within a security checkpoint.
Passengers facing long flights, or international flights, are able to check in and get some rest at
transit hotels in between trips or during lengthy layovers.
In conclusion, hotels come in all shapes and sizes and offer a wide range of facilities and services to
cater to different types of travelers. Understanding the different types of hotels and their facilities
can help you choose the right hotel for your needs and ensure an enjoyable stay.
