INTERNSHIP REPORT ON SIEMENS BANGLADESH LIMITED

INTRODUCTION

An internship is a necessary program to provide a noteworthy, real-life job experience. For every
student aiming for a BBA degree, it is an essential part of the curriculum. Most undergraduate
degree programs make internships mandatory, to prepare the students for what they may face in
the future. Internships help paint a small picture about the triumphs and hardships of the reality
of corporate life.

Siemens Gas and Power Service Department is most popular in the world because it is focused on
providing fully integrated products, solutions and services across the energy value chain.

As an intern I was given specific tasks to perform that helped to increase my knowledge and to
prepare my report. Through my report, I have tried to present the in-depth of Siemens and its
business. It was a great experience for me to work as an intern in a company Like Siemens
Bangladesh Ltd. I got an opportunity to work expert and talented minds which will have a great
impact in my professional life. Being a student majoring in Marketing for my BBA program,
completing my internship at a multinational company seemed like a correct approach. Thus, I
chose Siemens Bangladesh Limited, to be the organization in which I can fulfill my internship
requirements. Ever since the beginning of my undergraduate program, I have wanted to build a
career in banking sector. hence I was able to compare and contrast the knowledge gained from the
academic courses of my BBA program with that of a real life corporate scenario. The social
requirements of corporate culture were also a part of the lessons I learnt from this internship

19
INTERNSHIP REPORT ON SIEMENS BANGLADESH LIMITED

The PESTEL analysis for Siemens Bangladesh Limited is given below:

Political Factor
Political factor refer to government policy such as the degree of invention in the economy. The
political situation in Bangladesh is very unfavorable for any business. Political strikes,
vandalisms are observed frequently in Bangladesh. These unwanted political events adversely
affect the private sectors. Because of such unfriendly political environment, the investment in
our country is very low. Although political unrest exists, Siemens Bangladesh limited is not
much affected because no production facilities exists here and most of the activities is based on
the imported materials from Siemens global.
Economic Factor:
Economic factors include interest rate, taxation changes, economic growth, inflation and
exchange rates and these can have a major influence on the firm’s activities. The slowing global
economy results in a decline in investments Germany, the headquarters for Siemens, as an export
nation in particular. However, as a developing country, the economic prospect of Bangladesh is
developing day by day. In this current situation, Siemens Bangladesh Limited has a great
opportunity to invest more in line with the development of this country.
Social Factor:
Though vast population of Bangladesh is a great opportunity for any business, the poverty stands
as an obstacle. But with the increase in the per capita income, this obstacle is getting gradually
removed. Changes in social trends can impact on the demand for a SBL’s products. Increasing
urbanization changes are exerting a greater impact on the company.
Technological Factor:
New technologies always invent new products as well as new processes. Technology can reduces
operating costs and can improve production quality. These developments can benefit both
customers and organization to provide their products. Electronic companies like Siemens faces
variety of obstacles because of developing technologies. Usually local demand of technological
products is met by goods which are imported from foreign country and it creates a great
opportunity for Siemens Bangladesh Limited.

20
INTERNSHIP REPORT ON SIEMENS BANGLADESH LIMITED

Environmental Factor:
Environmental factor includes changes in weather and climate. Due to major climate changes
due to global warming, environmental protection is required. This situation has a great impact on
many industries to move towards more environmentally friendly product. Siemens is green
infrastructure giant and this company also faces obstacles caused by environmental factor.
Legal Factor:
Legal factor means the legal environment in which firm operates. Different countries follow
different legal system. Changes in legal factor can affect a firm’s costs and demand when new
system has to be developed and when the law affects the likelihood of consumers to buy a
product. Siemens Bangladesh limited considers all the changes in legal system of this country
and cope up with this changes. But sometimes the tax imposed on electrical items are so high
and this create obstacles for this company.

6.1: Findings of Siemens Bangladesh Limited:

v Siemens Bangladesh Limited has less promotional activities than it’s competitor.
v SBL does not take customer feedback.
v SBL makes standardized product. v Products produced by Siemens Bangladesh Limited are
expensive.
v In Siemens Bangladesh Limited interns do not have any access to the network and other
information.
v Siemens Bangladesh Limited has specific geographic area or market to serve. (i.e. operating
within the electrical engineering service industries)

Recommendation for Siemens Bangladesh Limited:

decide to buy it first or not.

ASSIGNMENTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS

During the beginning of my internship, I was usually given small tasks like operating a
photocopy, print, scanning machine or placing seals in documents. After some time I was
introduced to more challenging tasks. Even though I could not learn about everything the
company has to offer as the internship period does not provide enough time to do so, I tried my
best to pick up on what my seniors and colleagues taught me. Most of my contributions were
directed towards the Transmission Solution department, for this department had a greater
number of tasks that were within my limitations and authority. I was also given some
assignments of another department within my capabilities. I did however receive a lot of
theoretical lessons from the department.

Transmission Solution
My first ever tasks in the company was in the Transmission Solution Department, I had to read
the terms of the bid, the different contracts / deeds of some projects by Siemens. In addition, I
had to proof read the documents and make the corrections in a translated copy (Deed of
Compromise Agreement). Other work included checking overtime calculations and day-to-day
of my needed attributes. This was quite a simple task and suitable for those who were new to the
department.

After a few days in the department, I've heard from their selling and tendering procedures.
I've learned how to handle any situation tactfully. Through my experience, it seemed that,
along with a certain level of social skills, what I needed was maturity. Along with
contributing to the company, this task helped my own social development.

Page
|
23
INTERNSHIP REPORT ON SIEMENS BANGLADESH LIMITED

I've heard more about the department in which I work. I also outlined a more detailed version of
the division and the business unit and its classifications. I kept getting papers to the specific
departments and did other tasks as assigned. I rechecked overtime claim calculations, correcting
if necessary. If anything, new would have to be done, it would have been properly explained so
that problems would not arise. I also had to do documentation, attached the bill stickers
matching the bills and later did entry bills. I helped rescheduling or preparing the revised price
list according to government tax rate that is matching the amounts with the according
percentages. Furthermore, I also checked the calculation of toll, total km travelled and the
overtime calculation of the invoice for car rental and fuel bill for the month of November, 2019
of PGCB-IDB 16 substation project.

During my internship period, the most highlighted event was a visit by the German
Ambassador to Siemens Bangladesh Ltd. Everyone was busy welcoming and making things
go right on his arrival that very day. The next day, another German personnel visited, who
will be the head of this section, as some changes are going to take place between
departments.

Working in Siemens, I could observe and appreciate the global style and the working habits
of the world. The working environment is very cooperative with the organizational
philosophy. Other interns are also identified with the work, and the officers portray the roles
of corporate staff and act as an example. While Siemens Bangladesh Ltd does not have a
separate marketing department or its revenues are of a different nature, there are still things
to learn and discover in this company that operates globally.

Accounts and Finance

Page
|
24
INTERNSHIP REPORT ON SIEMENS BANGLADESH LIMITED

I mostly did the treasury related works of this department. I rechecked the incurred expense
reimbursement of the Siemens Bangladesh Limited and Siemens Healthineers following the
travelling guidelines. I had to calculate the individual receipts for matching it to the summary
sheet or the total amount in order to make sure the expense reimbursement is correct with all the
formats. This organization uses this software named Kaizoe for their purpose. So I worked in the
excel along with Kaizoe whenever needed ad organize the respective documents.

LESSONS LEARNED FROM THE INTERNSHIP:

The lessons I picked up during my internship include theoretical knowledge about the
departments I worked in and as well as lessons for my own personal development.

Theoretical Lessons:

The main lessons I learned from the Transmission Solution department was focused either
based on the commercial section or the sales section. I got the lessons from the offers, learned
the bidding requirements/ qualifications. As the department dealt with a vast amount of
workloads, I picked up whatever I could amongst those and complete the assignment and
contribution according to the given lessons.

Personal development - Analytical Skills:

Page
|
25
INTERNSHIP REPORT ON SIEMENS BANGLADESH LIMITED

Analytical skill is very important for an employee. It is about to measure the effectiveness &
utility of various tasks. The tasks are crucial for doing the business of the industry of service.
The bank is under the service industry category too. During my internship program, I also find
many situations where the problems were about to be solved with both efficiency &
effectiveness. There were difficult tasks like a large number of data to be analyzed, to serve mass
customers and doing some tasks which were related to more than one department. This helped
my analytical skill to work with gaining analytical skill. While doing critical jobs, I could find
my own way to solve the problem. I had to make new ways to work too.

Personal Development - Communication Skills:

One of the most important skills I got to gain from my internship program was to
communicate. Being a student, I had to communicate with a group of people. But being an
intern, I had to communicate various numbers of people from various sectors who were
customers of the bank. I had to communicate with the customers of three different departments
of the bank. I could practice the formal communication more. I found that I had good
interpersonal skill and at my office, I got the opportunity to prove it. I continuously could
communicate with the people of the departments and various types of customers. The people
of the departments were very much patient and I was about to be able to handle the tasks with
my interpersonal skill.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE FROM THE INTERNSHIP:

Interactions with Supervisors and Co – workers:

Page
|
26
INTERNSHIP REPORT ON SIEMENS BANGLADESH LIMITED

Siemens Bangladesh Limited is a very positive workplace. Every single individual working at
the bank treated me with helpful manner and respect. They assisted me whenever I needed it
and did not mistreat me if I made any mistakes. From my observation, they tried their very best
to give me a positive internship experience, help me develop and prepare me for my future
career. A mix of professional and personal attitudes in the workplace made it vibrant and
refreshing to work there. I frequently asked questions regarding my confusions on various job
related matters and was met with a detailed and friendly response from whomever I asked.

The Branch maintains a well-versed and sociable corporate culture, where people understand
the importance of responsibility and sincerity. I am very thankful for completing my internship
at such an amicable workplace.

Difficulties dealt during the internship

At first, I worked here in following the corporate notion and a multinational flavour but not in
my field. Siemens Bangladesh Ltd don’t do much of promotion or have a separate marketing
department. Their sales policies are different as well. So I mostly had to do according related
work. Overcomig the difficulties was my biggest challenge.

Secondly, communication was enjoyable and difficult at the same time. Employees working here
are from various groups, region, gender & financial sector. Their environments were different, so
their expectations were different too. It was not easyfor me to have a proper conversation with a
mass number of people.

Thirdly, personal issues can be still exist in professional life. I had discomfort that I am not a
student here, rather than I am an employee. So, it was tough for me to accept that I have to go to
the office every day, abiding by the rules and timing, companies like this have very few

Page
|
27
INTERNSHIP REPORT ON SIEMENS BANGLADESH LIMITED

holidays. It made me feel that my social life was being compromised. Eventually, the
organizational environment made me happier to accept my professional life.

Fourthly, I was excited and very much eager to do the tasks more than I was assigned. But I was
not permissible to do those. My supervisors explained to me about the risks and privacy system
of various types of operations. I believe giving more responsible tasks to interns would give
them a sense of accomplishment and motivate further.
Lastly, I was assigned to do some particular tasks. Rather than that, I couldn’t get a chance to
learn other tasks.

Internship experience: Expectation versus Reality

Life in reality is quite different from what we learn in books. Although we may get a slight
understanding or insight about the reality from the experiences of other people, our own
experience may vary. Most of what I heard about the internship experience from my peers
and seniors at university aligned with what I actually experienced in real life.

As mentioned before, a job in the multinational company has been my goal. I frequently talked
to peers who had completed their internship or had some sort of job experience. From what I
gathered, aside from the knowledge and skills required, I needed a certain level of aptitude to
quickly pick up and provide sufficient performance on the tasks that are assigned to me. I also
needed a certain degree of awareness about my surroundings. This included social awareness,
to co-operate with others and help them accordingly.

After about a week of Internship, expectation aligned with reality. Maintaining performance
levels, learning to work in teams, utilizing a methodical approach to solve problems all
required a certain level of effort.

Page
|
28
INTERNSHIP REPORT ON SIEMENS BANGLADESH LIMITED

However, even though my academics could be applied in some areas, most of what I had
learnt was relatively new. Therefore, even if personal interactions and performance were
within my expectations, the actual jobs I performed were not.

Influence of the Internship on my career plans

As I mentioned, a career in the multinational company has always been my goal. This
internship experience has helped contribute to making that dream a reality. Having a greater
understanding of the operations at a corporate sector will undoubtedly help me somewhere in
the future. Since I was able to work outside my field, the knowledge gained from this
internship should help me interact with companies regarding assistance and advice about
related things I worked here and hope this would add up value to my future endeavors.

CONCLUSION

Siemens is a leading global brand and is considered as one of the most popular names in the
world’s leading multinational organization. To acquire this desired position in the market,
Siemens has developed in many segments. Like other companies Siemens has some weakness
but Siemens knows how to transform their weakness into strength. As the necessity as well as
awareness of both medical healthcare and energy sector is growing day by day, more hospitals
and diagnostic centers and different types of energy fields are growing rapidly. So Siemens
Bangladesh Limited can accelerate and grow more in future. Siemens Bangladesh Limited
believes that Bangladesh is a potential market for them to grow through using their available

resources and strength. Siemens Bangladesh Limited believes that through proper management
and strict monitoring this company will be able get more success in future.

Overall, this internship period has been quite an insightful journey for me. Learning about
the practical implications of the academic knowledge we gained in courses at university
helped make the experience worthwhile.

If I had to redo this internship, I would take the opportunity to exert greater effort and try to
involve myself more in the activities of the company. Whether in this company or not I
would go for the activities of my field and do relevant work accordingly. I would also try if
possible; to work on outdoor, that is off station and participate in related activities such as,
going to factory visits and go for field work.

A last pit stop of my BBA undergraduate career and a pathway to wherever I may end up,
this experience will be memorable. With a boost to my confidence and practical knowledge
about the reality of the having a job, I believe I am ready for the future.

INTERNSHIP WEEKLY JOURNAL – 01

3rd November – 7th November 2019

Working in a multinational company was a dream. By the grace of Almighty, dream turned in to
reality and Siemens made it possible. Siemens is a global powerhouse focusing on the areas of
electrification, automation and digitalization. One of the world’s largest producers of
energyefficient, resource-saving technologies, Siemens is a leading supplier of systems for power
generation and transmission as well as medical diagnosis. In infrastructure and industry solutions the
company plays a pioneering role.

Work Done:

My first day of the internship at Siemens Bangladesh was with a warm welcome from the officers.
Everyone had been very cooperative and I got introduced to the people working, gradually to the
departments and so on. I began working under supervision of the Principal officers of the “TS”
department which stands for Transmission Solution. I visited IT ad HR for work, also got introduced
to them, submitting necessary documents as needed. I obtained knowledge of different contracts, job
roles and engineering departments along with learning the operation of the machineries. I had to read
offer terms, various contracts/deeds of Siemens of certain projects. Moreover, I had to proof read
documents and do corrections in the translated copy (Deed of compromise Agreement). Other work
included checking overtime calculations and day-to-day of my needed attributes.

Learning and Achievements:

Page |
42
INTERNSHIP REPORT ON SIEMENS BANGLADESH LIMITED

I successfully could complete given tasks and properly execute the assigned works. Working in this
organization could help me learn their systems, procurement process, other working process
globally, especially that of India and Germany. I had learned their sales and the bidding procedures.
I learned how to tactfully every situation. From my experience, it seemed as though, along with a
certain level of social skills, all I needed was patience to handle work specifics accordingly.

Observations/Reflections:

Working in Siemens, I could observe and understand the multinational flavor and know the working
patterns of the following. The working environment is very co-operative with the corporate notion.
Other interns are also specified with works and the officers portray the roles of the corporate
personnel and act as an example.

Notable Incidents:

Along with the other projects, Siemens focus more on the Indian ones. Indians stay around depending on the project
contract and at times Hindi is the prominent language that is heard. Even had Diwali sweets from India. One of the other
notable incidents was, saw the external audit people working and auditing along with everyday consequences.

Experience is the ultimate result I secured by working here for a week. I thereby, is willing to learn more and gather
experiences in the following days which will add value to my future success.

INTERNSHIP WEEKLY JOURNAL – 02

10th November – 14th November 2019

Work Done:

The second week of my internship continued in the similar manner in “TS” of the Siemens Bangladesh Ltd. Among the
lessons I picked up this week. I learned more about the department I work in. I got more detailed version explained, of
the division and the business unit and its classifications. I kept on reaching papers to the specific departments and did
other works as assigned.

Learning and achievements:

Learning and achievements included the understanding the working pattern of this company and growing knowledge into
the next step. Scanning, printing and photocopying were also part of everyday necessities, along with other time to time
needed assigned works. I learned more about their sales and bidding procedures and how everything works. Although
their sales are a bit different and usually in huge quantities, it is dissimilar to the smaller business sales and promotion.

Observations/Reflections:

Observations were also that of similar manner. But there’s no ending of gaining knowledge and
experiences no matter what the work is. Hence, it will be beneficial in the long run future.

Notable Incidents:

Indian leaders are very strict with the work measures. If the assigned work is not properly done or not completed in time
they become fierce with the employees. Although the team work in Siemens is very strong, individuals have their
specific workloads which is needed to be finished meeting deadlines.

INTERNSHIP WEEKLY JOURNAL – 03

17th November – 21st November 2019

Work Done:

During my third week of internship I continued my routine tasks of the “TS” department. Most of the things I had picked
up in the last two weeks were being applied quite frequently. On the first day of the third week I was loaded with
checking overtime claim calculations, correcting if necessary. Another day I had to stamp seal to a file of documents as a
guarantee of authenticity. Eventually the week went by with the usual work assigned time to time when needed.

Learning and achievement:

Learning and achievements were as similar as the last weeks. But as days were passing experiences obtained were
increasing. Since it was my third week I therefore knew the pattern when anything was assigned. If anything, new was to
be done, it was properly explained so that problems do not arise.

Observations / reflections:

The motivation we get is by seeing other people work or listening to the motivational talks. It enhances our brain actively
work reaching goals. In Siemens, the gym room is another motivation in between work breaks. Anyone can use and
workout in their free time if they want to.

Notable incidents:

This week didn’t have that much of notable incidents. The week went by with the usual doings with flexibility to a
greater extent since the work pressure was very low. But, of course maintaining regularity is part of the courtesy that
should be followed. Moreover, work can pop up in any moment and an employee/intern needs to be always ready for it.

INTERNSHIP WEEKLY JOURNAL –

04 24th November –
28th November 2019

Work Done:

The fourth week of my internship period resumed similarly. Along with the usual reading, printing, scanning and
photocopying documents, I did filing the documents. I also attached the bill stickers matching the bills and later did entry
bills. Reaching documents to outsider as well as to different people of different departments also continued.

Learning and achievement:

Learnings were like before and few things were different indeed. But what mattered most was if I could properly finish
the tasks which were assigned to me, and in time.

Observations / reflections:

Observations were of similar manner. Everyone worked according to their job roles respectively.
Although Siemens Bangladesh Ltd doesn’t have the marketing department separately or their sales are of different kind,
still there are things to learn and observe in this company that runs globally.

Notable incidents:

This week’s notable incidents were different than the others. The most highlighted observation was German Ambassador
visited Siemens Bangladesh Ltd. Everyone was busy greeting and to make things go right on his arrival that very day.
The following day another German personnel visited, who’s going to be the head of this branch, since some changes are
going to take place among the departments.

INTERNSHIP WEEKLY JOURNAL –

05 1st December – 5th

December 2019

Work Done:

By the grace of Almighty, I finished working the fifth week here, in Siemens Bangladesh Limited
and a little work of Siemens Healthineers as well from the accounts department. I helped
rescheduling or preparing the revised price list according to government tax rate that is matching the
amounts with the according percentages. Furthermore, I also checked the calculation of toll, total km
travelled and the overtime calculation of the invoice for car rental and fuel bill for the month of
November, 2019 of PGCB-IDB 16 substation project. I did bill entries along with the usual
printings, photocopy, reaching papers and counting documents. Moreover I checked the expense
reimbursement of the Siemens Bangladesh Limited and Siemens Healthineers following the
travelling guidelines.

Learning and achievement:

I have learnt from the discussions and achieved knowing about more things also by working newer things.

Observations / reflections:

As work specifications were various, observations were also different according to each. No matter what the work
experience is, this will definitely add value for future purpose.

Notable incidents:

The notable incident of this week was receiving the salary. Although its not much, and is just the allowances I other
words still it means a lot when its this time of the month. Additionally, this week also filled up the employer satisfaction
survey which is designed by the Career and Placement Centre of North South University and also had to submit it there.

INTERNSHIP WEEKLY JOURNAL –

06 8th December –
12th December 2019

Work Done:

This was the 6th week of the internship. Along with the usual works, I had to do some corrections on
matching the cumulative percentages with the original copy and mark and correct the mistakes.
Moreover, I had to get the bills signed which arrived from another company. I had to calculate the
individual receipts for matching it to the summary sheet or the total amount in order to make sure the
expense reimbursement is correct with all the formats.

Learning and achievement:

The acquisition of knowledge or skills through study, experience, or being taught is the learning.
Getting the works’ hold and completing it according to the know-how, is the achievement. In other words, finishing the
given tasks successfully are part of the obtained achievements. Here in Siemens Bangladesh Ltd, I got the blend of both.

Observations / reflections:

Observations were similar as well. But there is no end to acquiring knowledge and experience, no matter what the work i
s. This will therefore be useful in the long-term future with the multinational reflection that I observed here.

Notable incidents:

It was one of the employees farewell on the last day of the week. At the end of the day he was given his farewell with his
colleagues’ and others. Some of them had said their last piece of word and wished him good luck. He had his last
moment of celebration at Siemens Bangladesh Ltd.

INTERNSHIP REPORT ON SIEMENS BANGLADESH LIMITED

INTERNSHIP WEEKLY JOURNAL – 07

15th December – 19th December 2019

Work Done:

In the 7th week of this internship period I had to find out the numbers of the documents in excel,
mark it and serial the papers accordingly. I also had to file up the cancelled documents with the
help of my supervisor and check the signs in other documents myself. The usual works were
present as well.

Learning and achievement:

Learning and achievements were as similar as the last weeks. The excel part was new for me here. I therefore, could
finish it successfully since it wasn’t that of a tough task. As days were passing experiences obtained were
increasing. Since it was the 7th week and almost to the end, I almost knew how to do if anything was assigned and
could finish it successfully.

Observations / reflections:

Observations were not that different than the other weeks. The routined everyday went along similarly in Siemens
Bangladesh Limited.

Notable incidents:

Since its December, employees more or less take their leave in this month for different purposes. So, it seemed a
little gloomy at times or okay without everyone’s presence.

INTERNSHIP WEEKLY JOURNAL –

08 22nd December –28th December
2019

Work Done:

The 8th week finally arrived considering the last few days here at Siemens Bangladesh Ltd. In this
week I had done work in excel and almost similar type of work in the software named Kaizoe. I
also had to organize bills according to the vendor name and sort out according to the instruction.
Bill entry along with the other usual work was also present in this week.

Learning and achievement:

Even learning a little bit of something is fine as well. Although I knew nothing about the software, even for that
small work purpose I had been instructed to finish that very work. I was able to finish it accordingly.

Observations / reflections:

Observations were nothing new here, almost similar or varies a little now and then. But even observing the people
who are hardworking would motivate oneself to progress further.

Notable incidents:

Month of December, people are very for tours or wedding ceremonies. For one of the wedding of an employee, I
was asked to collect money for her from my department for her wedding present.
