Where are the proper headings which I told you to include!

Anyone taking this up to read would not have a clue what the information is
pertaining to.

Not many people can be comfortable being rejected by everyone around them. In
“Dreaming Black Boy” by James Berry and “My Parents” by Stephen Spender, the
theme of yearning for acceptance is explored. In “Dreaming Black Boy”, the speaker
yearns for acceptance and respect from his teachers and peers. He expresses his
frustration at being overlooked and underestimated and speaks of his dreams of
education and travel, and of being accepted and respected regardless of his skin color-
colour [ accurate information but not needed in an introduction]. In “My Parents”,
Spender speaks of the struggles a boy faced in a quest for acceptance. He speaks of
the bullying he encountered, and how he was denied a friendly relationship and seen
differently due to social class. Both poets express a deep longing to be accepted and
respected by society, in spite of the adversity. They speak of the struggles they faced
in their lives, and how they yearned to be accepted and valued. The poems show a
longing for a better life, free from racism and prejudice, and a desire for acceptance
and respect. I will describe one instance in which both speakers yearning becomes
evident, discuss how each speaker responds to the feeling and examine one device –
what is the name of the device, you have been repeatedly told to include this
information? used to portray the speakers yearning for acceptance.
In “Dreaming Black Boy,” by James Berry, the speaker expresses his
yearning for acceptance in several instances. One such instance is when he speaks of
his dreams of being educated and travelling, and of being accepted and respected
regardless of his skin color. A QUOTE IS NEEDED HERE He expresses his
frustration at the racism and prejudice he faces every day, and his fear of being judged
based on his skin color. He speaks of his desire to be seen, heard, and understood, and
his wish that no one else would have to suffer the same discrimination and prejudice.
Through his words – WHICH WORDS?, the speaker expresses his deep longing for
acceptance and respect from his teachers, peers, and society at large. He speaks of his
wish for a better future, free from racism and prejudice, and of his desire for
acceptance and respect.
In both poems the speakers are frustrated by the injustices they face. In
“Dreaming Black Boy” the speaker dreams of seeing his “wish” come true. His
use of the word wish indicates he believes it may never come true and that it
is simply a dream. In “My parents” the speaker “longed” to forgive the boys.
The use of the word longed clarifies that despite his intense to desire to do so
comma needed he cannot as they refuse to stop being mean to him and to
accept his forgiveness.
In both poems, the speaker's yearning for acceptance is effectively portrayed
through the use of various devices. These devices effectively convey the speaker's sense
of longing and desire for acceptance and highlight the emotional impact of feeling
rejected and excluded by society. In “Dreaming Black Boy” repetition is used in each
stanza of the phrase “I wish” to convey the speakers’ longing to be accepted as a wish
describes a strong desire. In “My Parents” the speaker alludes to Jesus turning the other
cheek when he says “when I looked the other way”. This points to the fact that no matter
how bothered he was by the way he was treated he was still willing to forgive the boys
due to his yearning for friendship with them.

“My Parents” and “Dreaming Black Boy” are poems in which the speakers yearn to be
accepted.”

Write an essay in which you focus on this theme in the TWO poems. For each poem you must
describe ONE instance in which the speaker’s yearning to be accepted is evident. You must
also discuss how EACH speaker responds to this feeling. Finally for EACH poem you must
examine ONE device used to portray the speaker’s yearning for acceptance.

It is clear that you did not spend enough time working on this essay. Although you have some
knowledge of both poems, you have not adequately answered the sections. What is
disappointing is that you have detailed annotations for each poem and thus have the
information for analysis of quotes.

For each poem you must describe ONE instance in which the speaker’s yearning to be
accepted is evident – in this section you gave general examples and didn’t focus on one. You
didn’t use quotes to support nor did you pinpoint an instance in My Parents’ where the
speaker yearns for acceptance. Again, having the question at the beginning of the essay
would have helped to keep you focused!

You must also discuss how EACH speaker responds to this feeling. – you mentioned the
frustrations of both personas but you have not directly stated how each responds. In ‘My
Parents’ the persona initially behaves as if the taunting and bullying of the boys doesn’t
matter…

Finally for EACH poem you must examine ONE device used to portray the speaker’s yearning
for acceptance. – Using the same quote more than once is not acceptable ‘ I wish’ . Using it to
comment on repetition as a figurative device is quite fine, it means you should have used any of
the other countless quotes available from the poem for earlier sections of the essay.

Alludes – is not the same as stating that the term is allusion. This was not the device listed in
your introduction.

Your conclusion was very generic – you repeated information already stated without
