Note: As you can see on the reference # of the record form, it is updated to no. 4 since the no.3 is filled up by a
wrong claimant. After this, the manager wrote an incident report regarding this matter.
SOP OF RAPPORT LOST AND FOUND DEPARTMENT:
1. Check items for safety and legality and take appropriate actions
- If found items are suspicious don’t touch it and call the police immediately.
2. Tag the lost and found items.
- If there is a record form always make sure to also have a tag for double checking and
comparison.
3. Notify owner, if known.
4. Notify internal establishment staffs to facilitate return of found items
5. Make sure to record all the details of the lost or found items in the lost and found record form.
6. Be specific in the description of the item including the damages
7. Make a hard and soft copy of the form
8. Check for personal or contact details of the items
9. Check the classification of the item.
a. If the item is perishable, check the expiration date to set the holding time.
b. If the item is valuable and nonvaluable keep it to managers office.
10. When someone is claiming an item,
a. Ask for the description
b. Ask for the time and date when he or she lost the item.
c. Ask for proof of identification.
d. Make sure to get the contact details.
e. Ask the claimant to fill-up the claim form.
11. When item is not claimed during the holding time,
a. Make a record what the action taken to the item.
b. Make a record who is the person that take the action.
c. If the item is valuable or non-valuable after the holding period, the finder have the rights to
keep the item, as per SOP.
