3. What should the agency do to avoid being hacked again?
4. As an end-user, why do we need to implement computer and file maintenance?

B. Presentation and Lesson

● What are procedures in implementing computer maintenance?
● What are the procedures in implementing file maintenance?
● What is the importance of maintaining computer system and equipments?

Procedures in Implementing Computer Maintenance

A. Disk Cleanup
Procedure:
Step 1: In “File Explorer”, right-click on your “C” drive, then left-click on
“Properties”.
Step 2: Click on “Disk Cleanup”
Step 3: Select all items under, “Files to delete”. Then click on, “OK”.
Step 4: Delete the selected files.
Step 5: Click on, “OK”.
Step 6: Next, “Clean up system files” by once again, right-clicking on your hard
drive and click on “Properties”.
Step 7: Click on “Clean up system files”.
Step 8: Select all files under, “Files to delete” and hit, “OK”.
Step 9: Click on, “Delete Files”.
Step 10: Click on, “OK”.

B. Checking Disk Errors

Procedure:
Step 1: Right-click on the Drive which you wish to check and select Properties.
Step 2: Click on Tools tab and under Error-checking, click on the Check button. This
option will check the drive for file system errors. If the system detects that there are
errors, you will be asked to check the disk. If no errors are found, you will see a
message – You don’t need to scan this drive. You can, nevertheless, choose to check
the drive.
Step 3: Click on Scan Drive if you choose to check the drive. The scanning will start. On
completion, Windows will display a message. If no errors are found it will say so. If errors
are found, you will see the following message: Restart your computer to repair the file
system. You can restart right away or schedule the error fixing on the next restart.

C. Dusting the external and internal part of the computer

● Case Cleaning
Procedure:
Step 1: Clean the plastic case that houses the PC components with a slightly
damp lint-free cloth.
Step 2: For stubborn stains, add a little household detergent to the cloth and
don't use a solvent cleaner on plastics.
Step 3: Make sure all vents and air holes are hair and lint-free by rubbing a cloth
over the holes and vents. It is also helpful to take a vacuum (recommended:
standard vacuum) around each of the holes, vents, and crevices on the
computer.

● CD-ROM, DVD, and other disc drive cleaning

Procedure: Purchase a CD-ROM cleaner from your local computer retailer or
use a cloth dampened with water to clean the CD-ROM laser and the tray that
ejects from the drive from dust, dirt, and hair. Just make sure that after the tray is
cleaned that it completely dry before putting the tray back into the drive.

● CD, DVD, and other discs cleaning

Procedure: Use a cleaning kit or damp clean cotton cloth to clean CDs, DVDs,
and other discs. When cleaning a disc, wipe against the tracks, starting from the
middle of the disc and wiping towards the outer side.

● Headphones cleaning
Procedure: If the headphones are plastic or vinyl, moisten a cloth with warm
water and rub the head and earpieces of the headphones. Replace also the
cushions of the headphones.

● Keyboard cleaning
Procedure: Before cleaning the keyboard, first turn off the computer or if you are
using a USB keyboard unplug it from the computer. Or you can turn the keyboard
upside down and shake it, or you can remove the keys from the keyboard. You
can also use compressed air or vacuum cleaner in cleaning it.

● LCD/LED Cleaning
Procedure: When cleaning the LCD or LED screen, it is important to remember
to not spray any liquids onto the screen directly. Press gently while cleaning and
do not use a paper towel since it can scratch the screen. Use a non-rugged
microfiber cloth, soft cotton cloth, or Swiffer duster. If a dry cloth does not
completely clean the screen, you can apply rubbing alcohol to the cloth and wipe
the screen with a damp cloth.
