PORTRAYAL OF A CURRENT LEADER

WINSTON CHURCHILL

I have decided to take Winston Churchill as the character of whom

to do the portrayal of a leader. I know he has been dead for more than 50
years now, but I still think that the actions he took still have a dent in this
day and age. Winston Churchill was a British politician born in 1874 in
Woodstock. He was part of the conservative party and is known for
becoming the first minister of Great Britain during the years 1940-1945
and 1951-1955. He was able to unite and give hope to the to the almost
defeated population of Great Britain. I’ve chosen specifically this character
because he was able to unite a whole country that was moments apart
from defeat and ended up fighting back the Nazis thus obtaining a very
significant victory.

Winston Churchill served as a soldier in Cuba, India and in many

other locations including France during the WW1. The very first day that
he fulfilled his ambition to become prime minister, Germany had attacked
France and were starting to set eyes on Great Britain. He not only had the
task of uniting his own country towards the same goal, but he also made
great effort and sacrifice in travelling all over Europe sustaining the
“Grand Alliance”. When he first was elected prime minister, Winston
Churchill had very few “real” weapons with which he could fight the Nazi
with. However, many reporters at the time considered the way the new
elected prime minister delivered his speeches could be considered a
weapon. The words used in his speeches were described as defiant, heroic
and human which overall ended in a very powerful speech with the
purpose of uniting all the country. A reporter called Beverley Nichols
described his actions with the following sentence: “He took the English
language and sent it into battle”.

“The battle of France is over. I expect that the Battle of Britain is

about to begin. Upon this battle depends the survival of Christian
civilization. Upon it depends our own British life, and the long continuity
of our institutions and our Empire. The whole fury and might of the enemy
must very soon be turned upon us. Hitler knows that he will have to break
us in this island or lose the war…” is one of the many quotes that in my
opinion is impeccable and is capable of exalting all of the population
uniting them against the common enemy. He calls for patriotism and uses
it for the cause.

Winston Churchill is a character that will forever be remembered for

how uniquely was capable of uniting a whole country towards the same
purpose using his own speeches. It is safe to say that if it wasn’t for him,
we could be living in this day and age in a Nazi regime, let’s just say life
would be somehow different. If we were to name all the current and non-
current leaders known so far in humans’ history, this prime minister
should be one of the names on the top of the list.
