SONATA
- a multi-movement work for solo instrument
- Came from the word “Sonare” which means to make sound
First movement: Allegro (fast)
Second movement: Andante (slow)
Third movement: Minuet – a three-four time and in a moderate or fast
movement

SONATA ALLEGRO FORM


most important that was formed.
- Consists of three movements:

Exposition – introduces the theme


Development – theme are being developed
Recapitulation – repeats the theme as they first emerge in the opening
exposition

CONCERTO
- multi-movement work designed for an instrumental soloist
and orchestra.

 First movement: fast, sonata-allegro form with exposition of the


orchestra and then by the soloist
 Second movement: slow, has more ornamentation than the first
movement
 Third movement: Fast-Finale, usually in rondo like the last part of
symphony

SYMPHONY

- four-movement for orchestra


From the word “Sinfonia” which means a harmonious sounding together

First movement: fast


Second movement: Slow, gentle, lyrical
Third movement: moderate, uses a dance form
Fourth movement: fast, in rondo or sonata form
CLASSICAL OPERA
- is a drama set to music with two types; Seria and Buffa

Two types of Opera:

Opera Seria – serious opera that usually implies heroic or tragic drama

Opera Buffa – comic opera that usually implies everyday situations with
sight gags, naughty and social satire

RENAISSANCE AND BAROQUE PERIOD

 by the end of the 15th century, Rome had displaced Florence as the
Florence center of the Renaissance Art
 the Baroque period in art history came directly after the
Renaissance
 mass and movement are the principles of the Baroque style
 artworks from this era showed exaggerated emotions on the
portrayed experience
 Exaggeration can be seen in the forms, gesture, mass,
 space, color, energy and light

Materials:

long bond paper


coloring materials
pencil and eraser

Procedure:

find a picture of your own that portrays happiness in your life or a


memorable event in your life

paint/ draw your picture on the long bond paper adding exaggerated
emotions to it

apply colors on your drawing giving emphasis on light and dark


colors to your work
