Subject: Research Proposal

Research Topic: Classroom size which is very crowded and it is not

conducive for learning anymore.

I. Context and Rationale

Overcrowding occurs when a school facility enrolls more pupil than it
was designed to accommodate (Hornick – Lockard, 2015). Most schools
identified as overcrowded are in areas where the school-age populations are
growing fast. It had been agreed that overcrowding involves a class of 35
pupils or more.
The study was purposely aimed at examining / investigate effect of
teaching overcrowded classrooms in academic performances. The research
proposal made these problem to be known to the policy makers, education
stakeholders as well as the Government, by implementing different
recommendations suggested by the study, and then any problems caused by
overcrowded classroom may be solved or taken into considerations.

II. Proposed Innovation, Intervention, or Strategy

The researcher hopes that this study will serve school principals to
identify the problems faced by the teachers in overcrowded classes, in order
to find solutions and to decrease the effect of these problems on the level of
teachers participation and students achievement. This study will provide base
for further research in this field and will very fruitful in the best interest of
the students, teachers, administrators and government to think over the
problems and do something for their solutions.
III. Action Research Questions

 What were the problems or challenges you experienced when teaching

in overcrowded classrooms?

 What positive aspects did you experience when teaching in

overcrowded classrooms?
IV. Action Research Methods
a. Participants and/or other Sources of Data and Information
The participants of this action research are selected Grade 10
students composed of 2 sections selected through purposive sampling. One
group will constitute the control group and the other section will be the
experimental group. Then, the 2 groups are both heterogeneous groups.

b. Data Gathering Methods

The data to be gathered will be coming from the results of the
pretest and post-test scores of the participants coming from the control
and experimental groups. This research utilizes a quasi-experimental
research design. And standardized pre-test and post-test will be used as
instruments in gathering the data.

c. Data Analysis Plan

Identifying keywords such as challenges, problems, noise,
disruption, and tests. Categorizing responses according to keywords,
such as poor discipline and academic achievement. Consolidating
categories into subthemes such as learners lack of motivation; and
organizing subthemes under a main theme, such as the influence of
overcrowded classrooms on academic achievement.

V. Action Research Work Plan and Timelines

I will conduct the study possibly right after the pandemic we face
right now. And it will last from 1-2 months with the help of the
teachers and students.

VI. Cost Estimates

10,000 – 15,000

VII. Plans for Dissemination and Utilization

The result of this study should be disseminated and utilized to the
DepEd personnel’s so that the heads should be aware of this certain crucial
issue in the different schools for the sake of the learning of the students.
