I. Introduction
Language is one of the important aspects of building relationships in the
community. Vocabulary selection and the use of speaking rules have a big impact on
building a good community. Language can be defined as the way of speakers in
communication with the interlocutor. (Tambunsaribu, 2018). Bali have many castes that
influence the relationship between the speaker and interlocutor in a community. For
example, when talking with someone with a higher caste than the speaker, the speaker
should use polite language in speaking. In the Buleleng community, the use of caste's
rules, sometimes ignored. When the speaker and interlocutor have a good relation, the
use of caste's rules in speaking can build a negative situation in the community. Usually,
they used rude language in communication in purpose to make the situation in the
community more comfortable. The use of rude language in Buleleng is common for the
people there, not only used by teenagers but sometimes it is used by children and older
people in Buleleng. They also ignore the language rules in speaking to a person with a
higher caste.
Rude language is the part of the language that used by people to communicate,
Usually Rude language used to communicate with an animal, for example, to give
instruction like ask that the animal has eaten or not. Rude language could be defined as a
language that used to communicate with reflecting the bad attitude if the language used
to communicate between speaker and listener (Tambunsaribu, 2018). However, the rude
language shows that the speaker has a bad attitude; sometimes, ignored by the
community in Indonesia. In the community, the use of rude language in communication
is common with conditions the speaker and the interlocutor have high relations. It also
happens with the Balinese people. When people talk to each other, they have their way
of talking, and it does not affect the speaker's attitude, only affecting the language taste
(Ramendra, 2016). In the Buleleng community, Rude language often used by the people
in communication without figure it out the caste of interlocutor.
Meanwhile, the used of rude language are influenced by caste system in Bali.
System caste in Bali is common happened in Bali. Caste in Bali is a system which
divided Balinese people into some class which is Brahmana, Ksatria, Vaisya, Sudra,
these class affect all the aspect of Balinese people like marriage and communicate each
other (Nurul Ilmi, 2013). This Caste system cannot separate from Balinese people
because the Caste System can be said as the heritage of the Balinese Ancestor. For
example, Marriage in Bali, especially for Balinese women. When a Balinese woman has
caste like Brahmana or Ksatria and married with a man who has Sudra caste, they will
get punishment in the form of ten years eviction (Cahyaningtyas, 2016).
On the other hand, the communication between castes also regulated by the
Caste system. The people with high caste like Brahmana, Ksatria, and Waisya should
use polite language to communicate with their family (Cahyaningtyas, 2016). It also
happens on the Sudra Caste when talking with high caste. These show that the Caste
System regulated all the aspects of Balinese people from how to communicate until
marriage.
However, the used of rude language also influencing solidarity in a community.
Solidarity can be defined as a factor that affects the relationship in a community. The
factor indicates the similarity or sameness of people in the community (Al Abdely,
2016). It can be interpreted that the people in a community have the same characteristics
as to how they communicate with each other to show that they have high relation with
each other. However, each people have their habitual in speaking to divided them (Rifai
& Prasetyaningrum, 2016). Hence, if a person the different characteristics like how they
communicate with the related community, they need to adapt to the situation, in purpose,
to have a strong relation to each other. For instance, when Gianyar people come to
Buleleng, they need to adapt to how the Buleleng people communicate and their
habitual, to join the community.
Moreover, the solidarity affects language selection between the speaker and
interlocutor. When the relation between the speaker and interlocutor is high, the use of
polite language switches into the rude language. It shows the relationship between them
in their community (Ramendra, 2014). These mean that, although the speaker and
interlocutor have different caste, if they have high relation, they can use rude language
to communicate to show the closeness of their relationship.
The focus of this article is to see the influence of Rude Language in WhatsApp's

The data above shows that Table 1 or Elegant Squad group uses rude language
in three languages: the Balinese language, Indonesian language, and Javanese.
Because the members of the Elegant Squad group come from Bali and outside Bali
that makes the use of rude language in communication with each other, besides that,
there is also a member with a high caste, which is Dewa. Table 2 shows that the rude
language comes from rude Balinese language because all the members in Team Her
are Balinese, originally from Buleleng. Furthermore, the caste of all the members in
Team Her are Sudra. The difference between Table 1 and Table 2 is the kind of Rude
language and caste of the members of each group.

According to Tambunsaribu (2018), there were three factors that influenced

the application of rude language to communicate in the community, namely:

1) Environment Factor.
The situation around can affect the people use Rude Language. If the
situation or the environment around the speaker often used Rude Language
each other, will impact the use of language in the community.
2) Habitual Factor.
The use of Rude language from childhood and the speaker often repeated
will become a habit. Unconscious, the speaker will use the rude language in
their communication with others and their community, so the speaker will
continue to use rude language in communication.
3) Friendship Factor.
Friendship factor is one of the biggest factors that affect someone to use
rude language. When two people have conversation and have a high
relation with each other, the use of polite language switches into rude
language. Both of them feel comfortable when they use rude language in
communication.

Moreover, the used of rude language or known as swear words, can create an
uncomfortable condition. If the rude language is used in the wrong situation like the
use of rude language in informal situations, the interlocutor feels it is an impolite and
unfriendly language, it can abuse the interlocutor. But if the rude language used in the
common situation, the interlocutor would not feel disturbed, especially in the relaxed
community (Dynel, 2012). Furthermore, some words with the same meaning can be
rude in some contexts and not so rude in a different context with the previous context
(Sjöbergh & Araki, 2008). for instance, the word "sex" it can be rude if the
interlocutor defines it as "sexual activity," but it is not rude when the interlocutor
defines it as "gender." In Buleleng community, the used of rude language in
communication between speaker and interlocutor in the same age, although both of
them have different caste, these happened because they want to keep their Buleleng
identity (Ramendra, 2014). This shows that the Buleleng people used rude language,
especially when talking with the interlocutor who has the same age as the speaker, to
protect their identity.

Based on the factors and theories above, in table 1, the influential factors that affect
the use of rude language are Environment and Friendship factor. It is because most of
the members in ELEGANT GROUP come from outside Buleleng. They need to adapt
to the condition and the Buleleng community. The first time they come to Buleleng
community, they will feel uncomfortable, but because of the Environment and
Friendship factors switch their condition from uncomfortable into comfortable
condition. It also breaks the caste system, which requires the low caste like Sudra
caste to talk politely to high caste like Ksatria caste such as Dewa. In Table 2, all the
factors influence the members, all of whom were originally from Buleleng, to used
the Rude language. Besides that, they also want to show their identity as Buleleng
people.

However, the impact on solidarity in the community is they used Rude

language to build the situation in the community comfortable for them. All of them in
each group have high relations, which means the use of rude language can strengthen
community solidarity.

IV. Conclusion

This article intended to be useful for the reader, especially for the reader who
comes from outside Buleleng about why people in Buleleng used rude language in
communication instead of underestimating Buleleng people because of the language
choice that they used to communicate.

This research aims to show the rude language that people often use in the
Buleleng community, the factors which influence the use of rude language, and how
rude language impacts the solidarity in the Buleleng community. The main factors
that influence the use of rude language are Environment factor, Habitual factor, and
Friendship factor. Those factors influence the people from inside or outside the
Buleleng community to used rude language in their conversation. Furthermore, the
impact of rude language towards solidarity in the Buleleng community is divided into
two, which are for people from outside Buleleng and people from inside Buleleng.
For the people from outside Buleleng, they use rude language to adapt to the situation
and build comfortable conditions in the community, especially for the Buleleng
community, when they communicate with each other. For the people inside Buleleng,
the use of rude language to show and protect their identity as Buleleng people.

In the end, this research is recommended for future research to continue this
study because the use of rude language will continue to grow with variation words
and differences impact on several aspects like solidarity or politeness. Future research
can research a different region in Bali or different provinces in Indonesia to find the
other impact of rude language in society.
