Media and Information literacy serves a significance purpose in our community.

It has its own

role that is very useful for us, not just student, but the people around the world. Being media and
information literate can greatly help us because in today’s generation, the usage of media is very
rampant.

Having knowledge regarding media and information is very useful because it can help us to
access, analyze, evaluate and recognize when the information is needed. We can also communicate
effectively in its various forms; written and oral. It is a fundamental to freedom of speech and
knowledge. It empowers the community to have a knowledge and understand the purpose of media and
other information platforms.

Students and parents can be very beneficial to this. It can help them to analyze and recognize if
the information is reliable. It is often easier and more convenient to access information, provide or
sharing of information and communicate via social media. As we are here in the Philippines, there are
tons of issues concerning politics, the economy and prejudice against lower-class individuals, and being
media and information literate, we can easily locate if the information is true and reliable. We won’t get
fooled easily of the things that we see in the social media because you are a media and information
literate.

Information is a wide concept that extends far beyond the limitations of media. Word of mouth
could be a source of information. It could be based on firsthand observation. It might be someone giving
you information with evidential purposes. It depends on you on how you handle different information
that is right in front of you. Just always remember there is no harm in being wise about information, be
media and information literate.
