Cookies Final Project

Sage just started a snack shop. They decided to sell two of their favorite sweets: vanilla pound
cake and strawberry smoothies. It costs $5.17 to make 1 vanilla pound cake and it costs $3.81
to make 1 strawberry smoothie. 1 vanilla pound cake is $15.51 and 1 strawberry smoothie is
$11.43. The constraints are bake time, materials, and budget. She has $300 to spend on
supplies. What is the best combination of both items or one item that gives Sage the most
profit?

Constraints:

Bake Time: Sage has 24 hours of prep time to make the smoothies and cake.
● Vanilla pound cake takes 1 hrs 55 mins to make
● Strawberry smoothies take 5 mins to make

Materials: The biggest problem with both of the recipes is that they both require milk. She has
10 gallons of milk to use per day,
● Vanilla Pound cake requires 1 cup of milk per batch
● Strawberry smoothies require 0.5 cups of milk per batch

Budget
● It costs $5.17 to make 1 vanilla pound cake
● It costs $3.81 to make 1 strawberry smoothie.
● How much can she make with $300?

Step 1: Organize your Information in a table

Constraints Vanilla Pound Cake Strawberry Total
Smoothie

Time 9.59 min per serving 2.5min per serving 24 hours (1440
115 mins per cake minutes)

Milk 0.083 cups per 0.25 cups per serving 10 gallons (160 cups)
serving

Budget $5.17 $3.81 $300

Step 2: Write your constraints as inequalities
Constraints Inequalities

Time 115v+2.5s < 1440 mins

Milk 0.083cv+ 0.25cs < 160 cups

Budget 5.17v+3.81s < 300

Step 3: Graph your feasible region (paste screenshot)

Step 4:Write your profit equation

Vanilla Pound Cake Strawberry Smoothie Profit

12 cakes 0 124.08

11 cakes 63 smoothies 593.8

0 78 smoothies 594.36
Step 5: Test your best solutions and find max profit

First we figure out the profit

Vanilla Pound Cake: 15.51(sell price) - 5.17(cost to make)= 10.34

Strawberry Smoothie: 11.43(sell price) - 3.81 (cost to make)= 7.62

Combination 1: 12 cakes
10.34 (profit) · 12 (how many cakes we sell)
= 124.08

Combination 2: Part 1: 11 cakes and 63 smoothies

10.34(profit for cake) ·11 (number of cakes sold)
=113.74

Part 2:
7.62 (profit for a smoothie) · 63 (number of smoothies sold)
=480.06

Part 3:
113.74 + 480.06 = 593.8

Combination 3: 78 smoothies
7.62 (profit for a smoothie) · 78 (number of smoothies sold)
=594.36

Combination 3 is the best as it has a 0.56 difference to combination 2. Combination 3 has a

470.28 difference from combination 1. So yes, combination 3 is the best as it gives Sage the
most profit and it’s affordable.
Reflection

Something I am proud of about this unit is I stepped out of my comfort zone. You see,
I’m not much of a baker, and never have been, but this project made me excited to learn about
baking and the money revolving around baking. It took me two days to figure out what my
products would be because I didn’t know anything about baking and what to do. I had to ask for
help when I was picking because baking isn’t something I do often. I had to step out of my
comfort zone in order to actually start this project. But I am proud I got it done. I am proud
because I really wanted to do this project and I did it. I am proud because it got me closer to
wanting to bake.

If I were to do this project again I would definitely ask for more help with picking my
products. I did ask for help but again, it took 2 days to figure out what I wanted to do. I lost
precious project work time and it definitely made me struggle. There were times when I didn’t
think I’d meet the deadline. I mean in the middle of the project, I decided to change how I would
sell the Vanilla Pound Cake. I had so many changes, and I should’ve asked for more advice and
help. So if I were to do this project again, I would ask for more help and advice.
