Geography

The West Coast of the continental United States makes up part of the Pacific Ring
of Fire, an area of heavy tectonic and volcanic activity that is the source of 90% of
the world's earthquakes.
The USA is bathed by the Mississippi, Red, Columbia and Colorado rivers.
It’s also bathed by Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, Lake Erie, Lake
Ontario, Lake Superior and Lake Michigan.
History
The American Revolution separated the Thirteen Colonies from the British
Empire, and was the first successful war of independence by a non-European
entity against a European power in modern history. By the 18th century the
American Enlightenment and the political philosophies of liberalism were
pervasive among leaders. Americans began to develop an ideology of
"republicanism", asserting that government rested on the consent of the
governed.
From the start of English colonization of the Americas, the English government
pursued a policy of mercantilism, consistent with the economic policies of other
European colonial powers of the time. Under this system, they hoped to grow
England's economic and political power by restricting imports, promoting
exports, regulating commerce, gaining access to new natural resources, and
accumulating new precious metals as monetary reserves.
Government
The federal government of the United States is the national government of the
United States, a federal republic located primarily in North America, composed of
50 states, a city within a federal district (the city of Washington in the District of
Columbia, where most of the federal government is based), five major self-
governing territories and several island possessions.
People and culture
Driving Everywhere
Americans live fast paced lives. Big cities like New York and Los Angeles are
especially fast moving and therefore require getting around by way of
anything but foot. Most Americans own cars and those who don’t usually
rely on public transportation. You’ll find a few smaller towns where people
walk to and from places, but for the most part, driving everywhere is how
Americans get around.
Food
Every single American will have a different idea about where to find the best hamburger in the country,
ranging from fast food on the West Coast (In-N-Out Burger) to fine dining in New York (The Spotted
Pig). But only one place is recognised by the Library of Congress as being the birthplace of
hamburgers: New Haven, Connecticut. The year was 1900 and the establishment was Louis' Lunch, run
by one Louis Lassen. Today his great-grandson, Jeff Lassen, guides the ship, which still serves burgers
made from five-meat blend and cooked in a century-old cast iron grill.

Sightseeings
The Statue of Liberty (Liberty Enlightening the World; French: La Liberté éclairant
le monde) is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbor
in New York City, in the United States. The copper statue, a gift from the people of
France to the people of the United States, was designed by French sculptor
Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and its metal framework was built by Gustave Eiffel.
The statue was dedicated on October 28, 1886.
Majestic figures of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt
and Abraham Lincoln, surrounded by the beauty of the Black Hills of South
Dakota, tell the story of the birth, growth, development and preservation of this
country. From the history of the first inhabitants to the diversity of America today,
Mount Rushmore brings visitors face to face with the rich heritage we all share.
Sports
American football (referred to simply as football in the United States and
Canada), also known as gridiron,[nb 1] is a team sport played by two teams of eleven
players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. The offense, the team
with possession of the oval-shaped football, attempts to advance down the field
by running with the ball or passing it, while the defense, the team without
possession of the ball, aims to stop the offense's advance and to take control of
the ball for themselves. The offense must advance at least ten yards in four downs
or plays; if they fail, they turn over the football to the defense, but if they succeed,
they are given a new set of four downs to continue the drive.
