SAI GLOBAL INSTRUCTIONS

Each SAI Global course assessment document contains detailed information and instructions which outline
the assessment task required the assessment expectations and a summary of the required unit of
competency.

ABOUT ASSESSMENT

Assessment means the process of collecting evidence and making judgements on whether competency has
been achieved, to confirm that you can perform to the standard expected in the workplace, as expressed by
the relevant endorsed industry/enterprise competency standards of a certifying body such as Exemplar Global,
IRCA, or a Training Package in the Australian Qualifications Framework.

About Units of Competency

 Each Most SAI Global courses are accredited. Accreditation bodies include: Australian Skills Quality
Authority

 Exemplar Global

 IRCA

 IEMA

Before you start your assessment become familiar with the relevant unit(s) of competency being assessed.
This will show you what the assessor is looking for in your assessment submission.

SAI GLOBAL ASSESSMENT POLICY

SAI Global ensures its assessments meet the requirements of the accreditation bodies for all accredited
courses or qualifications within our scope of registration by ensuring assessments:

 Comply with the Assessment Guidelines in the applicable Training Package(s) and Units of
Competency.

examiners requirements.

SAI GLOBAL
GUIDELINE FOR ASSESSMENTS

Clustering of Assessments
Most SAIG assessments are based on clustered units of competency.

By clustering similar units of competency together you can complete shorter amounts training. This means
less time away from work for you.

This approach works best for people with current experience who are able to complete the post course
workplace assessment requirements.

Reasonable Adjustment

You have the right to ask for reasonable adjustment to be made to an assessment task if you consider a
particular assessment will disadvantage you provided it does not compromise the integrity or rigour of the
assessment.

Examples of reasonable adjustment may include the use of adaptive technology, additional time, verbal
assessment, large print, bilingual assessment and provision of study materials in an alternative format etc.

Plagiarism

You are expected to acknowledge the intellectual property of others in the preparation of assignments and
assessment tasks. Plagiarism is regarded as serious misconduct.

It is acceptable for you to work with other students to research or to prepare for writing an assessment task.
However, you must write your own work.

If a participant is found to submit an assessment that is plagiarised, the assessment will be marked as not
competent.

Third Party Evidence

Some SAI Global courses may also require supplementary workplace evidence including:

 Third party feedback (interviews or documentation from employers, managers, supervisors, peers)

 Indirect observation by a third party of demonstrated skills

Third party reports do not constitute evidence for the purposes of assessment against nationally endorsed
training packages but they can be used to assist the assessor to make an overall determination of
competence.

For Australian students, SAI Global complies with the requirements as outlined in the ASQA Fact Sheet: Using
third party evidence to assess competence.

RECORDING ASSESSMENT OUTCOMES FOR ASSESSMENT TASKS

When you complete an individual assessment task within a unit of competency or qualification, the following
will be recorded by the assessor or examiner:

 If you perform satisfactorily in a single assessment task for a unit of competency, the result will be
marked as “Satisfactory”.

 If you do not perform satisfactorily in a single assessment task for a unit of competency, the result will
be recorded as “Not Satisfactory”.

Once you have successfully completed all assessment tasks an assessment decision will be made and you
will be deemed “Competent” or “Not Yet Competent”.

TIME PERIOD FOR COMPLETION AND SUBMISSION ASSESSMENTS

To be deemed competent in the units of competency you will need to complete the assessment task.

Online courses; related assessments have to be completed and submitted during the 12 month license.

How long do the post course assessments take for each course?

This can vary. The post course assessment requirements for each course generally take between

20‐40 hours to complete – usually over a 3‐6 month period. If the assessment is completed for an AQF
unit of competency, allow 70 hours per unit of competency.

If you are doing more than one course, we generally recommended you complete the courses over a period
of 6-24 months – this will vary based on your situation, as this will require the completion of a number of
workplace based assessments.

APPLYING FOR EXTENSIONS FOR ASSESSMENTS

Late submissions will not be accepted without prior arrangements. You must notify SAI Global as soon
as possible to apply for an extension. Contact our customer service team if you have an extension request.

One further extension of up to 6 months is possible, which will be granted only for exceptional circumstances.
After this time it will not be possible to submit your assessment. Further charges may apply.

It is the intent of SAI Global to support their participants through the pressures of work and other events or
commitments. However, participants are required to apply for an extension prior to the due date if they believe
they are unable to complete the assessment by the due date.

Please note that late lodgment of assessments without prior warning will not be normally be accepted,
although consideration may be given to exceptional circumstances. Application for extension to submit an
assessment can be lodged by emailing a form to

Australia, New Zealand TIStraining@saiglobal.com

Canada and United States TISelearning@saiglobal.com

UK UKIlearning@saiglobal.com

All extension requests must provide justifiable reasons. If extension permission has been sought, no more
than 12 months should pass between attendance on a course and submission of an assessment.

N.B: SAI Global will consider each submission on an individual basis. Therefore, it is recommended that
applicants notify the Customer Service team as soon as possible to discuss their situation and needs.

ASSESSMENT APPEAL PROCESS

A fair and impartial appeals process is available to all participants of SAI Global. If you wish to appeal your
assessment result, you must first discuss the issue with the trainer/assessor (Customer Service may facilitate
communication).

If you would like to proceed further with the request after discussions with the trainer/assessor, a formal
request should be made in writing within 1 month of receiving the results of your assessment.

The written request should outline the grounds/reason(s) for the appeal and provide any evidence to support
the validity of your claim.

Grounds for Appeal

An application for appeal will be reviewed by a panel consisting of the relevant SAI Global Manager or
nominated representatives and an independent third party. This panel will consider whether the appeal is valid
on the following grounds where you:

 Claim a disadvantage because the trainer did not provide relevant learning and/or assessment
materials.

 Claim disadvantage because the trainer varied the assessment requirements without consultation or
in an unreasonable way.

 Claim disadvantage because assessment requirements specified by the trainer were unreasonably or
prejudicially applied to you.

 Claim disadvantage because the assessment process breached the principles of assessment (valid,
reliable, flexible and fair).

 Are of the view that a clerical error has occurred in the documenting of the assessment outcome.

Independent Assessor

If the grounds for an appeal are valid, SAI Global will appoint an independent assessor who will make all
necessary arrangements to conduct an assessment of you at a time that is mutually convenient for all parties
concerned. The cost of the re-assessment will be borne by SAI Global and the independent assessor’s
decision is final.

All appeals are recorded and reviewed at SAI Global management review meetings. Results of the appeal are
communicated in writing to you and a copy of this communication is also kept on file, both on the Appeals
register and in your individual file.

Before You Start Completing Your Assessment Tasks

If you are unclear about any aspect of the assessment contact your facilitator or SAI Global customer
service.

Completing a whole assessment at once can be overwhelming. Break the task into steps to help you get going.

Make a list of everything you need to DO and INCLUDE.

Organise your response to follow the questions and match them up with the relevant sections in the Participant
Guide and Competency Unit(s) The competency units on their own can be a bit daunting so focus on the
guidance information that usually tells you which section or activity in your participant manual to use to address
the question.

Gather the things you need to do and include from your list before you start.

Draft the structure of your response to follow the questions you need to answer. In some cases you will be
provided with a template to use. If not make sure the template you prepare has the following things on it:

 Your name

 Your Student ID/Customer

 Number Page numbering

Set up headings for each part of each question. It will help you keep track of what you have completed, and
what is left to do. It will help us match your answer to the questions and will also help you to confirm you have
completed all requirements against the expected word - limit (i.e. you can check if you are over or under if you
do it this way).

Prepare a first draft, take a break and review your work.

Check, reflect and improve – spelling, grammar, punctuation, formatting, layout, page numbering. Use plain
English. Be concise, relevant and thorough.

SAI GLOBAL
GUIDELINE FOR ASSESSMENTS

Before You Submit (and When You Submit)

Missing a question or not answering all parts to a question is a common error. Ensure you have answered all
questions and completed all requirements.

Provide sufficient evidence that the work is your own.

Make sure any pieces of evidence relating to several assessment tasks (e.g. an audit plan, checklist and
report), are fully referenced so it is clear to the assessor which question(s)/task(s) they apply to.

Remember there is no perfect answer but the assessor will be looking for enough evidence that you have the
skills and knowledge required to satisfy the requirements of the unit(s) of competency.

Don’t rush and remember: incomplete assessments will not be assessed and will delay marking.

You have the 12 month licence period to complete your online course and submit your assessments..

Ensure you have used your student name and ID in the name of your profile so the documents are clearly
identified as yours when assessors download a bundle of assessments.

Ensure you have used your student name, ID and course name in the header or footer within the document.

Ensure you have gathered ALL documents ready for submission, together into one folder.

Size matters – the maximum file size you can upload is 10MB. If you have exceeded this files size you may
have difficulties and be asked to resubmit.

If you are completing an online course which includes an editable assessment template, please upload this
completed document. if you have additional attachments please combine and upload as a single document.

Ensure you save and keep a version of your assessment task/ evidence.

GUIDELINE FOR ASSESSMENTS

After You Submit

You will be contacted if there are any gaps between your submission and the competencies, or the
assessment task.

Your assessor will provide you with an email and phone contact information so you can work as a team to
complete the process. Remember to “reply all” so our system can capture the conversation automatically.

Australia, New Zealand TIStraining@saiglobal.com

Canada and United States TISelearning@saiglobal.com

UK UKILearning@saiglobal.com

If you are asked to resubmit, don’t be concerned – just look at what is needed and think about how to address
the gap. ASK for help if you need to clarify anything. Reflect on what you need to demonstrate. Your assessor
is here to support you to achieve competency so work together. Ensure your resubmission clearly shows the
new work you have done to fill the gap required. Make it obvious!

 Don’t panic

 Don’t take it personally

 Don’t rush to re submit without thinking it through and asking if unsure.

Each assessment task will be marked as “satisfactory” or “unsatisfactory”. Once you have fulfilled all the
requirements of the relevant unit(s) of competency you will be deemed competent and receive a Statement of
Attainment, a Statement of Achievement (Exemplar Global) or a Qualification.

In most cases you will receive feedback about your assessment submission.

If you are not deemed competent and are assessed as “Not Yet Competent” you will have the opportunity to
resubmit your assessment based on the feedback from the assessor.

Ask the assessor if you have any questions about the feedback.
