SEARCHING FOR INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

Educational resources are very important tools used by every teacher to improve
the teaching-learning process. Effective use of instructional materials can assure a teacher
for an active and productive learning and assessment.
Your task as student teacher is vital in assisting your Cooperating Teacher (CT) to
search instructional materials. This activity will build your competency in choosing
instructional materials that meet the needs of the individual learners.

1.1 EXPOSURE
One of the things that your cooperating teacher needs assistance from you is your
skill in searching for instructional materials. Your CT will give you a list of
instructional materials he/she needs in a particular lesson or lessons. You may also be
requested to search for information or do PowerPoint Presentation for instructional
materials generated from the internet.
Request a copy of your CT’s learning plans of his/her subject and look at the learning
objectives as your guide in searching for his/her needed instructional materials.
Make a checklist of the sources where you can get the appropriate instructional
materials for your assigned subject/s.

1.2 PARTICIPATION
The importance of producing instructional materials is to facilitate the teaching-
learning process. The essence is not to use the instructional materials as objects of
decoration but instructional materials must be utilized for an effective, meaningful,
and interactive teaching-learning engagements.

As you assist your CT in searching for needed instructional materials, consider the
following purposes why teachers use instructional materials in teaching.
 Capture the learners’ interest.
 Contribute in the realization of the learning objectives.
 Motivate the learners to be engaged in the teaching-learning process.
 Contribute in making difficult concepts easy to understand.
 Concretize abstract ideas or make concepts realistic to the learners.
 Afford degree of retention of concepts and ideas.
 Make learning more real and meaningful.
 Stimulate self-activity on the part of the learners.
 Address different learning styles and needs of the learners.

In assisting your CT to search for appropriate instructional materials, what
problems have you encountered as regards the principles to apply in the selection of
instructional materials?

Ang suliraning naranasan ko sa pagtulong sa aking CT sa paglalagay o pagsasagawa ng


angkop na instructional materials ay ang pagpili at pagsasaayos ng angkop at tiyak na
nilalaman ng Instructional materials kung ito ba ay wasto at kapupulutan ng aral ng mga
mag-aaral.

Para sa akin ang pili ng angkop na instructional materials ay isang suliranin sapagkat
hindi dapat basta-basta nalang magsagawa ng Instructional materials na hindi naman
angkop sa paksang tatalakayin at hindi kapupulutan ng aral ng mga estudyante.

Suliranin din ang pagkuha ng resources sa online o internet sapagkat hindi lahat ng
makukuha doon ay natitiyak na wasto o reliable ito para sa ikabubuti ng kaalamang
ibabahagi sa mga estudyante tulad halimbawa sa ibang resources sa internet na na-eedit
ang nilalaman nito marahil ang resources na ito ay masasabing hindi mapagkakatiwalaan.

Kapag ang Instructional materials na ginawa ay hindi angkop sa paksa; ang learning
objectives at learning competencies na kailangan makamit ng mga mag-aaral ay hindi
maisasakatuparan.

Ang talakayan ay nagiging maayos at nakapupukaw interes sa mga mag-aaral kapag


ginagamitan ito ng Instructional materials dahil nakatutulong ang Instructional materials
upang maunawaan ng mga estudyante ang paksang tatalakayin, nakapagbibigay ito ng
mas malinaw na kaalaman sa kanila o kalinawan sa paksa, natutungan din nito ang mga
mag-aaral na makilahok sa mga gawain o talakayan at maging aktibo sa klase. Ang
talakayan hindi nagiging boring bagkus ito ay nagbibigay sigla sa mga mag-aaral kung
saan makikitang ang mga mag-aaral ay nagpupukos at nakikinig sa kanilang guro dahil
hindi sila inaantok sa klase dahil naging creative ang kanilang guro sa paglalahad ng
bagong aralin.

Isa lamang itong patunay na ang instructional materials ay magandang instrumento upang
matulungan ang guro at estudyante na maging kawili-wili ang klase at mas matamo ng
mga mag-aaral ang learning outcomes at learning competencies na dapat nilang
matutuhan.

At syimpre sa pagsasagawa ng instructional materials dapat isapuso at isip ang


kaangkupan ng instructional materials na gagawin sa paksang tatalakayin maging ang
learning outcomes at laerning competencies nito upang matiyak na ang kaalamang
matututunan ng mga mag-aaral sa isinagawang instructional materials ay wasto at kapaki-
pakinabang.
