My Success Story in Preparing Instructional Materials

Instructional materials serve as a channel between the teacher and the students in

delivering instructions. They may also serve as the motivation on the teaching-learning

process. It is use to get the attention of the student and climate boredom. Instructional

materials are highly important for teaching; especially in experienced teachers. Teachers

rely on instructional materials in every aspect of teaching. They need materials for

background information on the discipline they are teaching. Young teachers usually have

not build upon expertise whenever they enter into the field. Teachers often used

instructional materials for lesson planning. These materials are also needed by teachers

access the knowledge of their students. Teachers often assess students by assigning

tasks, creating projects and administering exams. Instructional materials are essential for

all of these activities.

Post-test

1 Mention at least 3 reasons why a teacher spend time in searching for

appropriate instructional materials?

- Instructional materials are essential since they help the teacher and learners to

avoid overemphasis on recitation and role learning that can easily dominate

learners to have practical experience which help to develop skills and concepts

and to work in a variety of ways. Instructional materials provide the core

information that students will experience, learn and apply during a discipline.

They hold the power to either engage or demotivate students.

2 Why do we need to prepare instructional materials?

- These instructional materials bring life to learn by stimulating students to learn.

The use of instructional materials in the classroom has the potential to help the

teacher explain new concept clearly, resulting in better student understanding of

the concept being taught. It is held that good teaching resources can never

replace the teacher but the teacher uses them to achieve their teaching and

learning objectives.

3 What are the factors to consider in preparing instructional materials?

- There will always be a huge gap between the things that teachers want to impart

to their students and the things that students want to know from them. The

connection that will let the two meet is the relevance of the lesson with the

student’s lives. Engaging the activities that stimulate active learning is proven to

be the best method teachers use to provide a long-term understanding especially

with global learning. The introduction of a different culture to the students can be

daunting but making the lesson more interesting by keeping it meaningful and

relevant will serve as a great start of active learning.

Reflection

How can the teacher’s use of IMs stimulate meaningful and lasting learning ?

- Instructional materials provide the core information that students will experience,

learn and apply during a course. They hold the power to either engage or

demotivate students. This is especially true for online courses, which rely on a

thoughtful and complete collection of instructional materials that students will

access, explore, absorb and reference as they proceed in a course. The planning

and selection of instructional materials should take into consideration both the

breadth and depth of content so that students learning is optimized.

Module Summary

A key feature of effective teaching is the selection of instructional materials that meet

the needs of students and fit the constraints of the teaching and learning environment. There

are many pressures for educators to match the audiovisual stimuli of television, computers,

and electronic games with which students are experienced. The speed of personal

computers and the ease of authoring systems permit instructors to design and customize

computer-based audiovisual presentations and to develop computer-based assignments for

their students.
POST TEST

Answer these questions briefly.

1. What is the effect of the resources, methodologies, and technologies on

student learning?

- It also enables teachers to improve their instruction methods and personalize

learning. Schools can benefit from technology by reducing the cost of physical

instructional materials, enhancing education program efficiency and making the

best use of teacher time.

2. How are students using them?

- The importance of instructional materials or educational resources is to improve

student’s knowledge, abilities and skills to monitor their assimilation of information

and to contribute to their overall development and upbringing. They allow the

students to interact with words, symbols and ideas in ways that develop their

abilities.

3. What are students learning from them?

- Instructional materials enhance the teaching and learning process by exhibiting

information necessary to acquire knowledge and skills. The role of instructional

materials in the teaching and learning process cannot be overemphasized. They

facilitate and encourage self—study or independent study in students.

4. How and to what extent are students using optional resources?

- Instructional materials make learning more interesting, practical, realistic and

appealing. They also enable both the teachers and students to participate actively

and effectively in lesson sessions. They give room for acquisition pf skills and

knowledge and development of self-confidence and self-actualization.
