I. CONTEXT AND RATIONALE

English is one of the subjects that should be taken in Elementary level . In mastering the
English subject, the learners need to learn all skills in English such as; listening, speaking, reading
and writing. And to master over a language, the learners must learn thousands of words. It means
that the learners should have many vocabularies to support their ability in mastering English.

Vocabulary is one of the most important language components in learning English. Learning
Voacabulary can help learners in studying English and support them in mastering the other language
components.. Thombury (2018) holds that language comprehension and production will be hampered
because of lack of vocabulary. To increase the learners’ interest and motivation in learning
vocabulary, the teachers are expected to create various teaching strategy and need to correctness of
teaching methods.

This action research will conduct base on the learners’ difficulties in learning English because
of the lack of vocabulary. Its main purpose is to improve the Grade VI-Jose P. Rizal learners’
vocabulary achievement in Oogong Elementary School.

II. ACTION RESEARCH QUESTION

The study will seek the effect of Project EVOW ( Enhance Vocabulary Word) to the
Academic Performance of Grade VI Learners in English at Oogong Elementary School, District
of Santa Cruz, Division of Laguna.

Specifically, it seeks to answer the following question.

1.) What is the level of performance of Grade VI learners in the pre-test or before the

implementation of Project EVOW ( Enhance Vocabulary Words)?

2.) What is the level of performance of Grade VI learners in post-test or after the

implementation of Project EVOW?

3.) Is there significant difference between result of pretest and post test after the Project

EVOW being implemented?

II. PROPOSED INNOVATION, INTERVENTION AND STRATEGY

Oogong Elementary School aims high on promoting and helping those learners who feels bad
times towards learning English mostly during this time of pandemic. The school continues find any
means exerting too many efforts to reach out those individuals in need to ensure that the learners
may take place in some way or another.

Common problems and issues of the school even before the pandemic are the low
performances of the learners in some major areas and one of those is English. During this new
normal, the concern arises having the fact that only parents and elders are now the acting teachers to
them. The concerns on finding solutions to the low performing learners are seems more complicated
to address due to the situations.

With that, the Project E VoW which means Enhance Vocabulary Words, is a program that
uplift the learners vocabulary words that will help them to understand well the unfamiliar words that
they will meet during their reading and language time in English discussion. This project was
proposed by Mr. Eugene Dorado Collo, a grade 6 teacher that will start in second week in February
2023 to poster academic ease among learners who are facing the new normal of education set-up of
today’s situation.

To ensure the smooth and continues flow of the entire project, step by step process are being
considered like the following:

1. The implementer of the project and the researcher as well, Mr Eugene D. Collo will conduct series
of meeting.

2. Presentation of project proposal to the school head.

3. The adviser will explain properly to the parents for the important role they must portray in the entire
project implementation. Parents and School Agreement will be presented and signed by them as
proof that they understand the entire process and that they are willing to help for the benefits of their
children.

4.. Regular feedbacking and “Kamustahan” with parents of the respondents.

5. Ensuring the safety of all the people involve on the project processes, the researcher made sure to
strict follow the safety standard and proper protocol amidst COVID-19 pandemic for proper mitigation
and prevention control.

IV. ACTION RESEARCH METHODS

A. Participants and/or other Sources of Data and Information

The participant of this study are the 43 learners in Grade 6 Jose P. Rizal , who need to raise
their academic performance in English at Oogong Elementary School for the School Year 2022-
2023. They are the learners that needs assistance in order to cope up with the lessons in which they
fall short to follow and understand as base on the assessment of teachers to the performances of
learners during the first quarter and second quarter period. The method to be used here is universal
sampling technique since all the learners in grade 6 Jose P. Rizal will be the participants. The
beneficiaries’ performance were based on the assessment of the teachers based on their responses
of the first grading and second grading period that are considered as lag behind in English subject.
The participants are subject to involve in project E Vow in the prescribe time in order to uplift their
level of performance as aimed in this project.

B. Data Gathering Methods

This action research will utilize the descriptive comparative design. Descriptive design is used
to collect information about variables without changing the environment. According to Gray et al.,
(2013), descriptive designs may be used to identify problems in current practice, make judgments, or
even develop theories. Since the action research compared variables from the performances from
the previous activities and the current performances without manipulating the independent variable,
the researchers adopted the comparative design within descriptive research. In gathering the data,
the implementer utilizes a pretest and posttest self-made questionnaires that will be answered by the
respondents before and after the implementation of the project. After the data has been gathered,
tabulation and analyses are applied using the determined data analyzing tool to determine the
outcomes of the study.

C. Data Analysis Plan

The performance level of the benefeciaries in Englisg subject is identified through computing
the use of frequency and percentage. On the other hand, the significant difference on the level of
performance of the learner as compared to, after Project E VoW implementation as base on the test
result of the self-made test that will utilize in pre-test and posttest will be computed also. The study
will start in February 13 2023 and ended in June 2023, covering the third and fourth quarters.

V. ACTION RESEARCH WORK PLAN AND TIMELINES

All the process undertakes mostly in times that needs a face-to-face interactions to anyone
involve in the entire process of the program are strictly adhering the safety and health protocols as
mandated by school policy on DRRM Health and Policy Guidelines that is anchored to the IETF
health and safety standards amidst the Pandemic COVID 19.
