Motivation

Ask the student/s about his or her past experience/s involving heat
energy in their everyday lives.

While drinking coffee, have you tried heating your palms by

holding the mug/cup?
2. When you go to a beach/resort/ river to swim, do you want the
heat
from the sun warming your face?

3. While cooking, have you experienced getting burned by
accidentally touching the stove/ casserole?

B. Development Lesson Proper

Discuss Heat Transfer
Heat – is a form of energy that can be transferred from one object to
another.

For example: Pot on top of a stove.

What is Heat Transfer?

Heat transfer is the movement of heat from one substance or material

to another. There are three (3) forms of heat transfer, these are:

 Conduction
 Convection
 Radiation

What is conduction, convection, and radiation?

Conduction – is the process in which the transfer of heat takes place

between objects by direct contact. The key of conduction is direct
contact.

Example/s: Pot on a stove.

Egg in a hot pan.

What do you think is the reason why cooking pans are made of
metals?

Conductors Insulators

materials that allow thermal materials that transfer heat

energy to readily flow through poorly.
them.

Convection – is the transfer of heat from one place to another by

movement of gases or liquids.
Example/s: Boiling water.

Fireplace in a house.

Radiation - is the transfer of heat in the form of waves across empty

space or vacuum without any medium.
Example/s: Camp fire

 Do you have any questions regarding heat transfer and the 3

forms of heat transfer?
 What are the three forms of Heat Transfer?

Discuss PhET Simulation

 Have you tried playing a mobile game/computer, such as Car

Driving Simulator or Bus Simulator?
 How do you play that game? Do you use your hands to
manipulate a game?

PhET Simulation is a collection of over a hundred interactive

simulations for teaching and learning science and math. PhET
simulations are developed using the following design principles:
Encourage scientific inquiry. Provide interactivity. Make the invisible
visible.

(Show examples of PhET Simulation in class).

C. Engagement Application

 Select 3 students, and each student should manipulate and

demonstrate the forms of heat transfer: conduction,
convection, and radiation through PhET Simulation.

A. Identify the type of heat transfer that is described in
the statement and illustrations below.

1.
Warm air rises, cooler air sinks.
2. Feeling the heat of the metal in your hand.

3. Heat from a bonfire warms your body.

4. Getting the toasted bread in your hand.

B. Now that you have acquired knowledge about heat transfer,

how will you apply such understanding in these scenarios:

1. Cooking
2. Going to the beach
3. Air conditioner inside a room

Assignment
